In chapter two, George and Lennie are introduced to the Swamper, Curley, Boss, Slim, Carlson, and Curley’s wife. Swamper’s real mane is Candy and only has one hand. As George and Lennie learn more about them, they notice that Curley is good at boxing and his wife is a “tart.” Curley and the boss wear high-heeled boots. The boss is short and stubby and Curley’s dad. He is also racist and a bully because he was rude to Crooks, and oppressed black man, even though it was George and Lennie who he was mad at. and said, “the bus driver gave them a bum steer. In chapter 3, George asks Slim how he and Lennie became such good friends. Carlsonconvinces Candy to shoot his dog. Curly accuses Slim of eyeballing his wife, which leads to Curly taking his anger out on Lennie. Because Lennie is making Curly look bad because of his large size. Then, it turns into a fight. Lennie doesn't want to hit Slim, but George tells Lennie to get him and Lennie nearly chokes him to death. They managed to get Lennie off. Slim is telling George and Lennie how they can't tell anyone or Slim will tell everyone, Curly's dad is Boss In chapter 4, Lennie, Crooks, Candy and Curly's wife were talking in Crooks' room.
Crooks has a room to himself because he is African American and cannot bunk with the white men. Lennie came into Crooks' room to talk because he was lonely. Crooks started being a bully to Lennie because Lennie came in unannounced and without permission. Shortly after, Candy also came in unannounced to talk to Lennie about the farm. When Crooks heard their plans, he started asking questions about the farm. Once he had enough information, he wanted to work for his stay on the farm as well. Curley's wife surprised the men as she stood in the doorway. She was listening to their plan. She decided to talk to Lennie about how Curly got hurt, Lennie said Curly got his hand stuck in a machine. She saw the bruises on Lennies face and asked where they came from. Lennie does not know how to lie so Curley's wife figured out that "the machine" is actually Lennie. Curly's wife threatened Crooks' life and belittled him. crooks feels so bad inside that he no longer wants in on the dream of owning a farm with the
guys. At the beginning of chapter 5, Lennie was playing with his puppy. The puppy playfully nipped at Lennie, Lennie got angry at the pup, shook him to much and killed the pup. Curley's wife came in to talk, she talked about how soft her hair is. Of course, Lennie wanted to touch it. Curley's wife said he was messing it up and started screaming at him. Lennie placed her in a headlock and his hand over her mouth, because she was starting to be really loud. Lennie didn't want George to hear and be mad him, he winded up squeezing to tight, snapped her neck, and she died. Lennie was so scared and didn't know what to do, so he fled to the bush. When the guys came back, they saw Curley's wife dead. They started a search party to find Lennie, George said he would've went to the south because we came from the north. That wasn't true but the guys believed it, he knew Lennie was going the brush pile in the north. He wanted to make sure he had a chance to talk to Lennie before the guys found him.
At the beginning of chapter 6, Lennie had hallucinations of his aunt Clara and a rabbit scolding him about being no good to Lennie. Then, George caught up to Lennie. George made Lennie look away while he was getting a gun ready. George was talking to Lennie about their “dream", Lennie got really excited. George held the gun up to his skull were the skull meets the spine, he pulled the trigger and killed Lennie. George did it that way because he wanted Lennie to die happy. The guys who were going to kill Lennie would have killed him very slow and painfully.
