Lady Macbeth, the wife of Macbeth, has many changes in her personality throughout the play. From being the simple mistress of their home, to becoming an evil woman who wants to be so powerful, that she will kill any who get or are in her way.
Once Lady Macbeth receives the letter from her husband telling her that he became the Thane of Cawdor and that the Weird Sisters said he is to be king, Lady Macbeth starts to change. She speaks to the “Dark Forces That Be” and asks them to:
“…make me less like a woman and more like a man, and fill me from head to toe with deadly cruelty! Thicken my blood and clog up my veins so I won’t feel remorse, so that no human compassion can stop my evil plan or prevent me from accomplishing it! Come to my female breast and turn my mother’s milk into poisonous acid, you murdering demons, wherever you hide, invisible and waiting to do evil! Come, thick night, and cover the world in the darkest smoke of hell, so that my sharp knife can’t see the wound it cuts open, and so heaven can’t peep through the darkness and cry, ‘No! Stop!’ ...” (Macbeth, Act 1, Scene 5: Lady Macbeth’s soliloquy.)
After she begins to plot evil, and perfects her plan to kill the king, she doesn’t feel any remorse with her entire self wanting the crown and the power that will come with it. At one point, Macbeth rethinks things, and decides he doesn’t want to follow through with their plan to kill the king anymore. Lady Macbeth controls him and manipulates him in a way she knows will get him to do what she wishes by saying:
“…If you weren’t a man, then what kind of animal were you when you first told me you wanted to do this? When you dared to do it, that’s when you were a man…” (Macbeth, Act 1, Scene 7: Lady Macbeth, speaking to Macbeth)
Even after Macbeth commits the murder, and is talking to Lady Macbeth about how he couldn’t say ‘Amen’ when the servants said ‘God Bless us’ she just pushes him around, and tells him what
