Iago
The character I chose for my essay is Iago. I chose him because he is like one of the main characters in the story Othello. Iago has many character traits that he displays during the story. One trait that he has is that Iago is very sneaky. He plays a close friend to Othello in the story. But once Othello gives Cassio the lieutenant position, Iago angers and turns on Othello. “Oh, sir, content you. I follow him to serve my turn upon him”. This quote shows that Iago is now only following Othello to turn on him. Here he is showing he is portraying his sneaky trait.
Another trait that Iago has is that he is a very manipulative person. When he asks for Desdemona’s hanker chief Emilia just grabs it and gives it to him without even questioning what he will do with it. Emelia thinks he likes the design so she decides she’ll make him one just like it. “What will you do with’t, that you have been so earnest to have me filch. Why what is that to you”? Iago just doesn’t really care about his wife. He shares nothing to her but to make a copy of the hanker chief.
One final trait of Iago is that he is bossy. The way that he treats Roderigo explains enough. He pushed Roderigo into getting into a fight with Cassio just so he can set his plan into place so everything pans out. By having Roderigo do that he was also manipulating him at the same time while being bossy to him. “Do you find some occasion to anger Cassio…” Hes telling Roderigo to ager Cassio and possibly get into a fight with him while he is drunk and has no control of himself.
As you can see Iago has some character traits throughout the story. He has actually a lot more but these are just the main ones that stood out to me so far in the story. I’m sure more traits will be revealed later in the story but these are just the ones I know now.
