Autobiographical Narrative When I was in eighth grade one of my childhood dreams came true. I made the little league all-star team for the first time in my life. As I sat with the rest of the kids at the closing ceremonies of the regular season, I was not at all expecting my name to be called when the names of the select few players who made the all-star team were being announced. When they did call my name, I hesitated at first not knowing what to do. I was overcome by the awe of making the team. One of my friends told me to go up to the trophy stand where the coach of the all-star team was standing and accept my jersey, so I did. It took a while for it to really sink in that I had made the team, but when it did I was extremely delighted. I attended every all-star practice before our first game and was hungry with anticipation. The all-star tournament was single elimination, so if we lost even a single game it would all be over. I had some really good friends on the team although I was probably one of the least skilled players. We practiced nearly every day the two weeks before our first game. My excitement was steadily increasing with every practice. When the first game came I was extremely happy yet nervous also. We ended up winning the game by the score of three runs to two although I did not get to bat at all and was put in only for two innings of defense. I was disappointed that I did not get to play much but I was happy with the win. Our second game was the next day and I hoped to get more playing time then. When that day came it turned out that we were playing an extremely skilled team. We were losing three to one in the last inning and I still hadn’t played at all the whole game. One of my friends hit a double and then another one of my teammates hit a single to knock him in to score. The score was now three to two and we had a chance to come back. My coach then decided that we needed someone faster on the bases so he called for a

I only had school every Monday and Tuesday because my mom was so busy and needed to work. When she came home from work she was so tired she would fall asleep. I would worry about not learning stuff but my mom would always tell me that the only thing i needed to learn was street smarts, which is all I need for living in Chicago. The only thing that kept me human was baseball when my dad left, it was there for me when I was sad, I would walk four miles every day just so I could go to batting practice. My mom is wonderful and takes me to every baseball game even though we don’t have much money, we always save up so I can play in the best division possible. I had people come up to me and tell me I could be the next big thing in baseball, but I do it for my mom, she helps me with everything from batting to pitching and she is the best coach you could ask for. My mom gives me strength to not quit and she makes me believe I can do anything. Today is the day, tryouts are always tough but I was gonna try my best and that is all I could do. The first drill was batting we had to hit into the left, right and middle over the fence that was 300 feet away. The first up batting was Jeremy he didn't get it over on any of them, the next guy John didn't get any either. One by one none of them got it over. I heard them call my name, “Zach Lingard, you are up next after Ron Harper”. Ron is the best guy I have ever seen at baseball at my age, and he only got it over one part of the fence, the left side of the fence. The coach called my name, it was my turn. I was terrified, not one of them got it over except for Ron and he only got one over the fence, here goes nothing, the first one on the left side the coach throws me a fast slider down low and I crush it right over the fence, my…

I was confined to the bench for most of my games and finished with no hits for the entire season. Teammates would cringe when they saw me step up to the plate. Instead of getting discouraged, I looked to the adversity for motivation. That summer I made the commitment to myself that I would turn Laurel baseball around.…

I was devastated. My entire offseason of hard work would be put to waste. I realized that unless I wanted my season to be ruined I had to find another way to help my team out. One way I helped my team was by learning how to keep score of baseball games so that one of my coaches didn’t have to do it during the game. I also made it to almost every game during that season so I could cheer my team on. At the end of the season, my coach came up to me and told me how much he appreciated how I made an effort to support our team even though I couldn’t participate. This made me realize how much of an impact I had made even though I hadn’t played.…

Towards the second year of high school during the winter months, where soccer was not in season an opportunity happened to me that made me a better soccer player. There was a group of kids over at Air Force base who would go to the indoor soccer field and just practice around. I was one of those guys and we would meet up and play around twice a week. Practicing with those guys made me good but not good enough. But one day when we were doing our regular practice one of the soccer players who plays for the Air Force team saw me asked me to show up and join one of their practice. So I did. After a couple of practice they decided to let me join their team. I asked the guy why he chose me to join with them, and his response was that I reminded of him back when he was younger. He told me that I had determination and love for this game and that I just needed to practice harder and more. Which is the reason why he had me join his team so that I could practice with them.…

At my first baseball game I was really nervous. I was playing with kids who had already been playing for a year. I didn't have as much experience as the other kids. But luckily I got a hit. My mom and myself were so proud. Later on in the inning I soon came around the bases to score. Finally my team won and we had cupcakes to celebrate.…

I met my first goal and was on varsity. However, l wanted to start a few games and make a difference for my team. At the beginning of the season, I started off on the bench. I felt just as bad as I did a year before, I wasn’t good enough for the coach and just wanted to quit. I keep my head up and just used it as motivation. I was tired of feeling bad for myself. I stayed late after practice to run extra laps and went all out in practice. Until one night we went down to play Warrensburg high school to play and my coach thought I was ready to get my very first start. I was extremely happy and wanted to prove myself. We ended up winning the game seven to one and I got my first career assist. I went on to start two other games and helped my school win their third conference title in a…

After an hour and a half bus ride, we arrived at Adrian Middle School. It was a half hour before game time and everyone on the team was excited to play. As the sun was beating down on the team and I warmed up and got ready to play. Finally it was time to start the game. Our coach gave us our line up and the starters took the field. The first half of the game was intense. We had so many shots on goal but none of them went in. It was half time and the coach was giving us our pep talk and expressed to me that I was going to score a goal in the first five minutes of the second half.…

It was Thursday at 3:00 pm everyone arrived to the locker room door hyped about the game. Our locker room was locked so everyone was waiting for coach to open the door. We were all getting frustrated over the wait on coach because we were all excited to play our first game of the season. Also for some of us it was our first actual football game. Backyard football comes nowhere close to actual football, in practice we all realized it pretty quick but we also caught on pretty fast too. Overall we were a pretty good team and worked together well. While we were waiting we started to fall apart little from all the frustration that coach seemed like he wasn’t going to arrive. Just when we were all about to walk back to our parents car. Coach arrived rushing through with keys in his hand ready open the door as soon as he could. He was a cheetah down the halls he got to the door in seconds. Once the door was open we bursted in like a cattle of bulls, it sounded like a stamped down the hallway on our way to our lockers! Everyone got ready in seconds because the game was getting ready to start and the other team was outside waiting for us, once everyone was changed we jogged outside in a single file line to make us look organized. Once we got out there it looked like if the other team had half their school on the football team! They had at least 130 players, which is almost triple our team. We started off pretty good and were holding the score at 0-0 but later on in the game our team was getting pretty tired but the opposing team were still energized. They had so many players I didn’t see the same player more than 9 times! So we tried holding them off but there were some plays were they would use their advantage of having the energy to have the half back run through or they would have their receivers run far at a fast pace to catch the ball before we even get close to the receivers. They ended up scoring 1 touch down every quarter but they scored…

In high school my passion for basketball grew as I became a more skilled player and started to dedicate more time to the sport. I had finally lost all the extra weight and honed my skills on the court. At first, the coach didn't put me into as manyy games as I wanted to, however that didn't stop me from developing my game. I continued to go to the gym on my own and working on my skillset; doing ball handling drills, working on my defense, and getting at least 500 shots up a day. My hard work finally paid off, when the coach gave me a chance to play in the playoff game and I scored 18 points off the bench and hit a game winning shot. I vividly remember that game because afterwards coach brought me over to the side and told me if i keep plating…

I was chosen to start on the field with the boys at first. There was one other girl on the other team. The air was chilled, and I had a long sleeve underneath my jersey in order to make sure I kept warm throughout the game. I stepped onto the field, and stood waiting for the coaches to come onto the field and blow the whistle in order for the game to be started. I looked at the other team, and then looked at my teammates ready to start.…

All through my life I have played and excelled at ball , from the time I played T-ball at the Sylmar Independent Baseball League to my first year in college. My mother and father were always a part of my experience; in fact I have never played a game without one or the other watching. As long as my last year in elementary school I was singled out as a real prospect. Two coaches from different high school used to keep track of me that year when I was pitching for the Broncos ,an independent sports organization in the West Valley .Curt Daniels ,my coach at the time, said that ,in his thirty years of coaching ,he had never seen a more promising ballplayer. At Garrison High School in Canoga Park you can still see plaques and cups awarded to me in the trophy room.…

During the tryouts we did variety of drills that put our basketball skills to the ultimate test. By that meaning, the drills we did pretty much showed the coaches were we would stand with our skills and also were we would stand within the team. I was only a freshman and I was an average player, I also was one of the shortest and smallest so I knew that it wasn’t the best bet to get my hopes up too much. The following day our coach put a list outside her office showing who made the team and what team that person belonged in. As for me I was so happy because out of all the freshman that tried out, my friend and I were the only ones that got chosen. Some of the varsity players didn’t think we belonged there, but I knew that my…
