None of the members of the BBS were directly involved with the Charlie Hebdo newspaper and
none of them were present during the attacks that took place in the Charlie Hebdo office in Paris
and at a public afternoon event called "Art, Blasphemy and Freedom of Expression" at the
Krudttønden cultural centre in Copenhagen. However, the BBS is no stranger to Muslim

In fact, it is stated in the Quran (the holy book of the Muslims’) that people from all
religious faiths should be treated with respect and no one should be forced to convert to Islam-
“There is no compulsion where the religion is concerned.” (Holy Quran: 2/ 256) and “God does
not forbid you from being good to those who have not fought you in the religion or driven you
from your homes, or from being just towards them. God loves those who are just.” (Surat al-
Mumtahana, 8)”.
The BBS is in full agreement with Article 19 of the Universal Charter of Human Rights which
states ‘Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom
to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas
through any media and regardless of frontiers.’. However, the BBS also believes that this right
should not be abused to make any individual or community feel disempowered or disrespected.
Everyone must show a modicum of respect for people of different faiths. The BBS does not
support laïcité- the government of a particular country should be according to the religious
beliefs of the people of that country instead of letting democratic and pluralistic values kill
