Charlotte's Web Analysis

According to the Character PowerPoint it discusses how writers will present their characters to their readers through their actions, speech, appearance, comments that a character has about another character and the authors comments (Character PowerPoint Slide 5). In Charlotte’s Web, White develops his main characters using action, speech, appearance, characters’ comments, and the author’s comments. In Charlotte’s Web each of the characters go through character development, which means that the characters personality will change and grow as the story goes on (Lukens, Smith, and Coffel 113). White develops the main character Charlotte through speech, actions, and through other characters. White develops the main character Charlotte through actions because in Chapter 7, Wilbur finds out bad news from the sheep that he is going to be killed and Wilbur is very upset by this and says how he does not want to die. Charlotte hears what Wilbur is saying and she says to him tells him (White 51). Charlotte’s action that she is going to help to save Wilbur
When Charlotte speaks we are able to tell that she is a very wise spider because of the words that White chooses for her to say. Charlotte is a very smart spider because she is explaining to Wilbur the parts of her leg. Charlotte states, “My legs are hairy for a good reason, replied Charlotte. “Furthermore, each leg of mine have sevens sections- the coxa, the trochanter, the femur, the patella, the tibia, the metatarsus, and the tarsus” (White 55). After hearing and learning about all the sections of Charlotte’s leg Wilbur is in shock to hear that she knows all that information. I think that Charlotte is the wisest character in the story because of the knowledge that she has and because of the action that she takes to save her
