For this experiment, a few scientists are researching the changes in gas pressure and launch velocity needed to send a film canister across the room using the ignition of ethanol. The independent variable would be the different types of flammable sprays. The dependent variable would be how far the explosions are sent across the room. The constant would be way the device is built for every type of spray, and the control would be the film canisters.

You need a very quick chemical reaction, a large and quick change or increase in gas pressure, and a container, or a vessel that holds the pressurized gas to the point where it can violently break out of its container. In this experiment, the gas being pressurized is ethanol. The equation C2H6O+3O2→3H20+2CO2+heat states that ethanol combines with the other parts of the equation in order to make enough energy to cause a chemical explosion.
The scientists then went into deeper research about ethanol and how it will react with the other parts of the equation for the chemical explosion. Ethanol (C2H6O), also called ethyl alcohol, is a type of compound chemical. It is commonly found in alcoholic beverages. It is being looked into and researched as an alternative to powering vehicles and other things that run and depend on gasoline because it is a cleaner and more environment friendly energy source.
The scientists have researched chemicals, chemical reactions, and what is needed for a chemical reaction. They have also researched chemical explosions, which will be the main focus of their experiment, and how they relate and rely on chemical reactions in order to work effectively.
