Matter is anything that has a mass and takes up space. There are many ways to describe matter using physical and chemical properties. Physical properties are characteristics of a substance. Two types of physical properties are quantitative and qualitative. Quantitative is a property that has an amount or can be measured such as hardness, solubility, and viscosity. Qualitative is a physical description of matter such as color, clarity, and state. Chemical properties are characteristics of a substance which allows it to behave in a specific manner.
