I am taken most inspiration and influence by Chiara Bautista, because of how she interprets her relationships into her pieces. However, most of the illustrations is how she interprets her significant other and how distance is influencing their relationship. The illustration show’s a girl with her palms out with clouds going from her hand to overwhelming tiny objects, that has a Teddy bear falling towards the girl. It’s influence by Bautista because it’s a representation of my current relationship to my significant other. It’s abstracted in a way to be interesting to interpret by the viewer and to tell a part of a larger story. Last year I had an illustration of a girl and a dragon, where a red head girl is at the entrance of a cave, confronted with a giant purple dragon. This piece was influenced by Alexey Egorov because of idea of a strong light source. I wanted the opening of the cave to drive the light source throughout the cave, which gave it high contrast on the rocks and dragon figure.
Movement was always have been a part of my work from freshmen to senior year. Each piece always had an “S” movement drawing the viewer around the image. More specifically the first illustration that I made this semester-which is untitled- shows this influence very well. From the woman’s hands to the Teddy bear is a path of objects and clouds moving around the illustration. Another example of this influence is freshman year when I did the 4x4.
