Chicken Little Comparison
I would use Chicken Little in second-grade as part of the core standards in the genre of folktales. The students can use skills and strategies for comparing texts. I would use Steven Kellogg’s retelling alongside a more traditional re-telling such as Paul Galdone’s version in order to make comparisons between the two and have the children decide which version they enjoyed more.

Summary:

In this version of Chicken Little, the focus is more on the character Foxy Loxy, who is portrayed as an escaped criminal, guilty of kidnapping poultry. Foxy Loxy plans what kind of delicious meal he will make with each bird who comes into the story alerted by Chicken Little’s cries of “Help, Police! The sky is falling!” It is the cries of “Help, Police”

In most cases when there are two versions of something we can find differences and similarities, such as when a book is made into a movie. An example of this is the book To Kill A Mockingbird which was made into a movie, these two versions are very different but portray the same story. The movie does a good job in presenting the main points of the book but overall the film and the novel are dissimilar more than they are alike. The three main differences are the alterations of major scenes, the absence of characters and the lack of details illustrated in the book.…

Night by Elie Wiesel and the movie The Boy in the Striped Pajamas show two extremely interesting perspectives towards the Holocaust. Night was a non-fiction novel written by a Jewish boy who was in an actual concentration camp. The Boy in the Striped Pajamas was a movie based off of a fiction novel written by John Boyne that tells the story of a Nazi soldier’s son named Bruno that befriends a Jewish boy he meets at a nearby concentration camp. Within the two stories, there were differences in perspective, mood, and overall message.…

The Lesson by Roger McGough would be a fantastic poem to study because of it’s black humor. In the poem a teacher walks in, gives the children homework and then kills them with a variety of weapons. This may not be funny to many adults but to year sevens this is hilarious. A stanza that a year seven might enjoy could be, ‘Then sword in hand he hacked his way between the chattering rows first come first severed fingers feet or toes.’ This poem conveys a great feeling and atmosphere of humor and would definitely be a good choice for year sevens to study next year.…

    Symbolism In Chicken Run

In Chicken Run, he opening and closing scenes portray the chickens’ desire for freedom, which the director illustrates through the use of lighting, diegetic sound and non-diegetic sound. The artificial, dim lighting in the opening scene alludes to POW camps, making the viewers sympathise for the chickens and admire their determination and their desire to escape to freedom. Mr Tweedy’s torchlight creates a vector towards the Chickens and another intertextual allusion to the Great Escape and a POW camp. The slim light from the spotlight symbolises the chickens’ slim chance of hope of escape. This contrasts greatly against the closing scene, as the closing scene has bright, saturated sunlight to imply that their new life is full of hope and optimism…

Aims: The aim of this assignment is to demonstrate and plan a story to read to a group of children aged 2 and half to 4. I chose this age group because this is the group I work with on a daily bases from 9:30 to 12:30 five days a week. I am picking a story called “Oh Dear” by Rod Campbell who is a Scottish writer and illustrator of several popular children's books including the classic lift-the-flap board book “Dear Zoo”. As it is a story that helps the children with learning the different animals on the farm and also encourages the children to use their imaginations as they lift up the different flaps in the book to see what is behind them. Which Maria Montessori says “Imaginative teaching materials are the heart of the process”. All of Rod Campbell’s “books have simple text often with repeating phrases which is ideal for pre-readers” and will also Help the children with langue and intellectual skills. “The child proceeds at his own pace in an environment controlled to provide means of learning” -Maria Montessori. this book also helps the children physically as they have to get up to lift up the flaps on the book “movement is therefore the essential of life education cannot be conceived of ad a means to moderate or worse to inhibit movement; it should only function as an aid to a better expenditure of energy whilst allowing it to develop normally” -Maria Montessori pg 102 discovery of a child. “The aim of the children who persevere in their work with an object is certainly not to “learn”; they are drawn to it by the needs of their inner life, which must be recognized and developed by its means.” – Maria Montessori pg 120 discovery of a child. To develop their attention spans…
