2. The key purpose of this Act of legislation is too give states the funds for the prevention of, assessment, investigation, prosecution, and treatment activities surrounding child abuse. It also provides grants to public agencies and nonprofit organizations for demonstration programs and missions. CAPTA also identifies the Federal role in supporting research, evaluation, technical assistance, and data collection activities involving child abuse. It furthermore establishes the Office on Child Abuse and Neglect and mandates the National Clearinghouse on Child Abuse and Neglect Information. CAPTA also sets forth a minimum definition of child abuse and neglect. CAPTA also includes Adoption opportunity programs and Abandon infant’s assistance.

The policy has already influenced social work practice since it was enacted in 1974 because this policy is giving the money to the agencies and social workers so they can investigate and prevent child abuse. While at the same time I believe social work and workers have had an effect on this policy as their have been many changes to this policy and amendments that are now helping more people get help and feel safe. Social workers for the Children’s Bureau have been for this policy since its creation 1912 tackling the nations most pressing issues including but not limiting to child abuse, child labor, and orphanage.
