Ludacris does a remarkable job of portraying his message about the struggles that some adolescents are faced with. “Runaway Love”, by Ludacris, featuring Mary J. Blige (2007), represents the theme of struggle through hip-hop and rap music. It is about little girls who are “stuck up in the world on their own.” They have to take care of themselves because the people they are around do not care about them. They range from nine to eleven years in age, and their goal in life, at such a young age, is to run away from home. Ludacris is trying to get the listener to realize the struggles that even children have to face because adults are not the only ones who have problems, like most people believe. He is very successful in portraying his message through this song. Girls at that young of an age should be enjoying their childhood, but instead they are forced to become adults and take care of themselves.…

Child labor was once a prevalent issue in the United States – a combination of cruelty, coercion, and abuse characterizes its entirety. Fortunately, many organizations, such as the National American Woman Suffrage Association, made attempts at alleviating the issue in hopes of eliminating the institution. Surprisingly, it was mutually beneficial to the organizations and the child laborers in that in order to help child labor, women needed to work for their suffrage. Suffrage would allow for women to have more power, and, therefore, more say in issues such as that of child labor. Florence Kelley, a member of the organization, presented a speech before a convention that outlined child labor, presented to persuade many fellow activists to pursue change. Within her speech, using a combination of powerful pathos and vivid imagery, Kelley effectively detailed the issue of child labor and pushed for reform and ultimately the freedom of child laborers.…
Child labor has been going on for quite some time. Many people that you ask that grew up in the 1900s will tell you the story about working on a farm. Many of these people only went to school until the 6th or 7th grade due to the family needing their help on the farm or different business. We used to see this happen all of the time, but today the United States has child labor laws that require children to go to school up until a certain age. This may be the case for the United States, but not for many other countries or regions around the world. We may not see or hear of the children being injured or dying every day, but it is happening.…
A common danger of child labor is sewing. The US used to make almost all their clothes, but then the major companies moved overseas letting the USA be free to start to save money and build. Now poor kids have to work in tight factories with an unstable…
The photo to the left shows this 5 year old boy working in a oyster plant in 1911. Everyday he has to run barefoot on cracked shells to retrieve buckets of shellfish to shuck. That company hired many children of his age to shuck oyster for as little as 30 cents a day, approximately $7 in today's currency. Because of this story and many other stories we now have child labor laws.…
During the late 1700s and early 1800s child labor was formed due to the increase of factories being built. While this not only meant an increase of jobs being formed, but this was also the start of a revolutionary thing. Today there are strict laws on the age at which children can now work, how long, and how much they get paid. While child labor still exists in the United States today it is much less common than it was all those years ago.…
This July I will be attending my 20th high school reunion. 20 years ago I did not have major plans on continuing school with my friends at either a junior college or university. I, like any typical teenager wanted a job to earn my own money. This year I will be celebrating my 13 years of employment with my healthcare organization. After the topics of being at the upper part of my pay scale and a degree would be required for professional advancement in leadership was mentioned during my annual performance review, the thought of going back to school came back to mind. In today’s job market jobs are difficult to find. The turnover rates on jobs are lower than usual. In order to support my passions in life, I have decided to return back to school, in spite of the obstacles that I will face, to improve myself worth, personal satisfaction, and gain a competitive edge in the job market. Earning a college degree has been a life-time goal of mine.…
Children as young as six years old worked long hours in poor environments, this is child labor. The work harms children or keeps them from attending school. All around the world and including U. S., grew gaps between rich and poor in recent decades having to force millions of young children to be out of school and into work. The International Labor Organization estimates that 215 million children between the ages of 5 and 17 currently work under conditions that are considered illegal, hazardous, or extremely exploitative. Underage children work all sorts of jobs, usually because the children and their families are extremely poor. Large numbers of children work in commercial agriculture, fishing, manufacturing, mining, and domestic service. Some children work in illicit activities like the drug trade and prostitution or other traumatic activities such as serving as soldiers. Forms of child labor, including indentured servitude and child slavery, have existed throughout history. As industrialization moved workers from farms and home workshops into urban areas and factory work, children were often preferred, because factory owners viewed them as more manageable, cheaper, and less likely to strike. Growing opposition to child labor in the North caused many factories to move to the South. By then, American children worked in large numbers in mines, glass factories, textiles, agriculture, canneries, home industries, and as newsboys, messengers, bootblacks, and peddlers.…
Over the past ten years, U.S. government statistics show a marked rise in child labor violations. In sweatshops, farm fields, and fast-food outlets, kids are being exploited and exposed to dangers. I disagree that these factories hire children because they are treated like labor slaves, they are losing the opportunity to be educated, and they work in barbaric conditions.…
America is supposed to be a place of freedom and safety. But not everyone in America was living the dream. The average salary for an American workers was $500 a year. “The object of employing children is not to train them, but to get high profits from their work,” wrote Lewis Hine. Child labor was and still is real. People shouldn’t buy products that were manufactured from child labor. People shouldn’t buy products manufactured from a child with child labor because those children are being deprived of many things in life because of child labor. Children are deprived of their childhood and most of all their education. Although, some say that children go to work to support their families, but the dangers involved in working at such a young age are practically poison to their little tiny bodies. In conclusion, people should not buy products manufactured from a child using child labor.…
Child labor in the industrial revolution still affects children today for many reasons. Children may not have realized that they have helped us alot. They made sacrifices for their family and their health just to get food on the table. No kids back then had education, so because of that a child’s education is very important today. Child labor gave children today a chance to have a childhood and to spend time with their parents or have a play-date with their best friends…
