In article entitled “Gender, education and child labour: A sociological perspective”, Bilal Ahmad Bhat tries to explain very problematic issue concerning a child labour. He shows why education is important in the context of child labour and that compulsory school attendance may be a solution in combating this problem. Moreover, the author proposes few aspects what should be done to improve the situation.
As world develops very rapidly, with the increasing process of industrialization, urbanization and continuous increase in population, on one hand, there is a greater awareness about human development, on the other hand however, there are various social problems which have so far been abandoned or unattended, have come to assume significance. (Bilal Ahmad Bhat, 2010) Due to such unequal development of the world, there are huge disparities between rich and poor. So, if we focus on the Third World countries like most African or Latin American countries, we notice that the problem of working children is a significant one. The real problem about this is that everyone is aware of such situation, however nothing really can be done. The truth is that many poor families exploit their children because they cannot afford to pay workers for the job but they need additional help, that is why they use them. What is more, these kids are not aware that this is illegal. Usually, they find out about their conditions when they are already adult workers.
According to International Labour Organization, over 70 million primary aged children, and a much larger number of secondary school aged kids are not enrolled in school. What is more, many more children are enrolled but they do not attend
