Child Reflection
Indoor Activity: For the children’s indoor activity, the kids were put into groups of three and were put into separate tables. Each group had their own boxes filled with supplies such as pencils, crayons and glue. The kids took out their crayons and the teacher supplied them a worksheet to color in pictures. The children worked on their own individual pages but several of the kids helped one another but also “raced” with each other trying to finish faster. The teacher also called up several groups to her table to color a different picture and distinguish the different pictures such as “flower” and “friend”.
Number of Participants: 3 in each group; 5 groups in total
Duration of Activity: Start: 2:00 End: 2:20
Functions of play addressed: The children encouraged each other by telling each other to stay inside the lines. Others would tell another which color to use. Within the group, two of the members, a boy and a girl, started to argue about “racing” and which one would finish first.
Outdoor Activity: For the children’s outdoor activity, the kids were allowed outside in the playground. The equipment includes the typical jungle gym and learning toys. Several of the children were playing with building blocks and building different toys to play with. The children playing with the building blocks were groups of five to six kids. Many of the other children were running, playing tag. Several others were playing on the jungle gym. Many of the children were interacting with each other during their games.
Number of Participants: 15 children in total, differnet number of kids at different play areas
Duration of Activity: Start: 12:30 End: 1:20
