Johnson talks about how children would get raped during war and how they wouldn’t have a chance of backing away from it, which supports my thesis because that is a form of abuse. Every day as a result of conflict millions of civilians are killed or hurts, so many of them are children. Children and women are often targets of sexual violence during armed conflicts. Sexual abuse is a very powerful weapon in war predetermined strategies of war. Men and boys as well as women and girls are all victims of such tragedy. Posttraumatic stress disorder can cause a lot of children to have their life’s change to the worse it could cause depression. Children are the most vulnerable to the ugliness of war. Children rape some children and women during war. When children get recruited to become soldiers they have no choice but to follow the rules that started with breaking the laws, those rules turn into the new law with no one able to stop them because they keep growing, therefore when a child soldier is forced to rape an innocent soul they are both affected. Other forms of abuse during war. Children get physically abused and mental hurt for the rest of their lives. Once more, the three main icons key to helping child soldiers is we firstly need to be considerate and not let them wander off freely. Secondly, research must be done to find out how they feel about killing and what's going on around them. Are the passionate about such events, or do they despise them. And finally we must clarify what kind of state they’re in. Meaning the kind of schools in which they have been taught in. Are they being yelled at by a general, or simply being taught in a school. The use of child soldiers is one of the most blatant abuses of international human rights. There have been a number of treaties that have tried to prohibit these practices, but the use of child soldiers has become more prominent and occurs in approximately 75% of conflicts around the world. Primary causal factors of recruiting children are: social disruptions due to globalization, disease and war which has resulted in further global conflict and generation disconnection which has created a pool of possible recruits and technological improvements with fire arms becoming smaller and lighter allowing children to be more effective. With low draft turnout, conflict leaders see the recruitment and use of children to be a economic benefit. It is low…

throughout the world. It is estimated that there are as many if not more than 300,000 child soldiers around the world. Since 2001 and as of 2008, child soldiers have participated in 21 on-going or recent armed conflicts in almost every region of the world. Ranging from ages of 8 to 15, child soldiers are raped, abused, and sometimes even sent on suicide missions if they haven't died from the hardship put on a child in the military. 40% of child soldiers are recruited by force and many times forced to kill their family so that they don't have anything to come back to if they escape from the military. For instance, murderers, robbers, and people that deserve to be put on trial for something horrible they have done. Child soldiers should not be part of that list of people to be put on trial. They are children who have usually can’t comprehend what they just did. According to the University of Rochester Medical Center, kids and teens brains don’t fully develop until the age 25. After that age, your prefrontal cortex is fully developed and that is what helps adults make smart decisions and know when something has a long time consequence. Kids however, process information like going into war as a child with the amygdala, the emotional part of your brain (Holloway pg. 1). Unless there is evidence which normally there isn’t for a child soldier's case, all the decisions they made were emotional decisions. Those were then comprised with drugs and alcohol from the commander who the kids saw as a father figure because they had no one else. These kids did what they did with no intention to hurt or kill…

Child soldiers have been recruited into the military at obscene ages. The earliest recorded recruitment age into the Sierra Leone military was seven. Currently, recruitment begins when soldiers are able to carry weapons. which totally goes against international laws stating that children under fifteen must not participate in hostilities and must not be recruited into the armed forces (Protocol I, Art. 77, Sec. 2; Protocol II, Art. 4, Sec. 3c).
