Why was the Policy Introduced??? The one Child Policy was introduced in the year of 1979 in order to stabilize china’s rapidly growing population. At that time China’s population had reached around 970 million people, making them the most populated country at that time. The one child policy states that the ethnic majority, could only have one child. In 1980, china relaxed the policy allowing families to have two children if one parent was the only child in his or her family. The goal of the policy was and still is to control the population growth and to make sure it would not have a negative effect on the economic development and also the demand for natural resources were really high because there were a lot of people in need of the natural resources
