CN has become very successful since the privatization and deregulation in order to take advantage of the growing demand due to the North American Free Trade Agreement. As a private company, we have successfully become the only North American transcontinental railroad and the largest railroad in Canada. We serve major ports on the Atlantic and Pacific coasts, the Great Lakes in Canada and also the ports of New Orleans and Mobile on the Gulf of Mexico. The new CN network today also serves every major metropolitan area in Canada as well as 10+ major rail hubs in the United States. CN is a true North American railroad with a clear competitive advantage over competitors as CN provides a single-line service between facilities in Canada, United States and Mexico. This network is built to handle the additional traffic that can be generated from the increasing Asian market that CN’s intermediaries in international logistics will secure to flow through North America.…

One of the main ‘flows’ on transport, are goods (food, objects) that will be traded with other countries. The main improvement that has taken place in recent times is the creation of the freight transport, containerization. These containers can be loaded and unloaded, stacked, transported efficiently over long distances, and transferred from one mode of transport to another—container ships, rail and semi-trailer trucks—without being opened. The system, developed after World War II, led to greatly reduced transport costs, and supported a vast increase in international trade. Because of this increase in trade, containerization has help build a more interconnected world. Better relations are built and more trade is available to ship via this improvement in transport.…

Thanks to consistent growth of economy and multidomestic exchange, the logistics industry has been witnessing buoyant growth and will continue this growth momentum in years to come (Rajaram, 2011). The demand for logistics services in China has been largely fueled by consistent growth of economy, and key industries such as automotive, engineering, pharmaceuticals and food processing. Similarly, individuals’ demand for logistics service has been also dramatically increased because of the convenience provided by modern technology such as online shopping. As a result, express companies were founded and promptly expanded to fulfill the customers’ demands for a rapid, efficient and secure shipping service. In China, there are currently more than 1,000 registered express companies operating and offering logistics services to either individuals or organizations. However, it is true that various problems are existing within those companies, which lead to significantly negative impacts on organizational effectiveness and relationship with clients. This report will focus on one representative express company in China, which is called Shentong Express and investigate the company’s problems and underlying causes behind them. This report will also recommend solutions that address the symptoms and causes to improve the organization’s performance and productivity.…

Since the beginning of the shipping industry, a port’s efficiency, stability and security have been the deciding factor of its continued existence. Although it has had some hardships recently, Seattle Washington is still one of the most viable ports on the western coast of the United States. The Port of Seattle Washington, due to its utilization of its efficient loading and discharging equipment, and its unique intermodal opportunities, has become one of the most efficient ports to bring cargo into the United States.…

Over time, as the frequency of crashes is reduced, cars and trucks could be made much lighter. This would increase fuel economy even more” (Anderson). Our country’s current transportation system is incredibly inefficient as drivers spend much of their travel time slowing down, speeding up, or staying stopped uselessly. The reason we have this current system in place is that humans are not able to work flawlessly in a complex system that would allow drivers to remain moving through an intersection at a high speed. Autonomous cars would eventually eliminate this system as they would be able to complete these complex tasks that humans are not capable of. Today's drivers are sick of getting stuck at red lights with no cross traffic in sight, a…
• Global commerce trade is primarly dependent on trans-ocean shipping; roughly 90% of general cargo is shipped via container Based on the container shipping value chain, there are several segments to expand and integrate the business and enter the market. This would provide benefit of business diversification hence decreasing risks According to the volume of growth of shipping lanes (Exhibit 6), every lane has steadily increased during the last years and is expected to grow further in the future…

Around 90% of world trade is carried by the international shipping industry. Without shipping the import and export of goods on the scale necessary for the modern world would not be possible. The international shipping industry transported 6.2 billion tones of cargo in 2003, with a fleet of 26,280 deep sea cargo ships. Poor and inefficient port handling services have become one of the main causes of inefficient logistics in shipping industry. Such as poor communication, inaccurate paperwork, or inefficient port operation, upset shipping lines greatly.…
