The Chinese New Year or more commonly The Spring Festival (Chun Jie in Chinese) is the most important festival in China. It has more than four thousand years of history. It is based on the Chinese lunar calendar which all Chinese people use. The celebrations begin the first day of the first lunar month and end the 15th, although the most important day for Chinese people is new year eve, this day you have to be with your family and have dinner all together, so if you are in another place or travelling or whatever you have to come back home and meet with your family. It is a very important tradition. In the north of the country people eat dumpling but in the south is more common rice ball, but everything depend on the part of China that you come. Also, you can put inside the dumpling some coins, caramels, peanuts… If you take one with coins, means that you will earn a lot of money next year, or if you take the dumpling with caramel means that your life is going to be sweet. All the food is about good luck and health. After dinner, is time to put in the door of the house a red paper with Chinese poetry (Duì Lián, the name in Chinese) because means the family happiness, but above all, put the paper in the door is the aspiration to a better future and a better life.
Furthermore, is normal that elder people give money to the young people, this is really different from the western countries because they prefer presents than money, but in China this money, the money that you give to the young people in New Year, scares the devil and bring good luck to the kids. Fireworks are another important part of Chinese New Year, but this part is common in every country in the world. Some people decorate their house with papers that they cut and then they put on the window as a symbol of luck.
An important thing in the Spring Festival is that all the people wear new clothes, the houses are really clean and have new sheets also. Some elder people
