The documentary, Chinese Treasure Fleet Adventures of Zheng He tells a story of a treasure fleet led by Zheng He. It was made up of three hundred seventy of the largest ships in the world and twenty seven thousand men, sailing to more than thirty countries around the Indian Ocean and the South China seas, including Sri Lanka, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Kenya and Tanzania. Zheng He led seven voyages with the idea to explore and not conquer.
However, Zheng He was not always known as China’s greatest seafaring explorer he became it. It began in China’s Yunnan province, for ten years he had grown and lived there until 1382 when three hundred thousand Ming troops arrived to invade Yunnan to take it back from the Mongols and bring it under Ming control. From than on Zheng He served in the Ming court as a eunuch. Years later he is taken to Beijing where he served a prince who would overtime reward him with the opportunity of a lifetime. In 1402 Zhu Di took the throne, a man so ambitious he was determined to control trading in the the Indian Ocean which he appointed Zheng He to do so. This is only the beginning seven voyage journey.
In 1405 the treasure fleet set sail. Zheng He’s first voyage took him from the South China Sea through the Indian Ocean to Calicut, India, and back. In Indonesia he remembered for his diplomacy, honored as a god and has his own temple. Near the end of the voyage Zheng He’s ships encountered pirates. Specifically Chen Li and his companions with them being deadly and a threat to trade Zheng He set him up to his death. The Treasure Fleet went to Calicut on the west coast of India. Calcutta was one of the world's major trade depots at the time. On their return to Ming China, Zheng He and his companions received monetary rewards from the Yongle Emperor who was cry pleased with China's increased prestige in the eastern Indian Ocean. Later
