Chinua Achebe: Father of the African Novel in English.
Albert Chinualumogu Achebe, although he uses the name Chinua Achebe, a derivative of his middle name to write; is known as "the father of the African novel in English." Achebe is one of the most symbolic writers to surface from presentday Africa and with his novel “Things
Fall Apart.” has greatly influenced the form and content of modern African literature. In his novels, he narrates the colonization of Nigeria by Great Britain and the political anxiety resulitng from its independence. Achebe 's novels represent some of the first works written in
English that describe an intimate and realistic account of African culture. His first novel,Things Fall Apart (1958), which critics have decribed as a classic of modern African fiction. A major theme of Achebe 's writings is the social and psychological impact of European imperialism on African societies. Critics have praised Achebe 's novels for their insightful torys of African history.
Achebe was married and had four children. He lived in the United States, and he was a professor at Bard College until 2009, he then he switched to Brown University as a professor of
Africana Studies. Later in life, he also served as a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations

Population Fund. He continued writing throughout his life, writing both fiction and nonfiction, and winning awards like the Man Booker International Prize in 2007. His last published work was the literary autobiography There Was a Country: A Personal History of Biafra. Chinua
Achebe died in 2013, due to an unknown illness in Boston.
