Chrisptopher Columbus/ Leif Erikson
Christopher Columbus and Leif Erikson were very important sailors who changed the course of history. These both sailors were both European sailors who came to the Americas. These two sailors have many differences and similarities. Such as Christopher discovered America in 1942 but Leif discovered America in 1000. These both sailors are similar by both discovering America. To this day, these two explorers are celebrated for their great achievements. Christopher Columbus is the explorer who is known for discovering America. Of course, there were already people living in America at the time who we call Native Americans. There even was a European, Leif Ericsson, who had been to the America's before. However it was Columbus voyage that started the exploration and settling of the Americas. Columbus was born in Genoa, Italy 1451. Columbus spent years trying to convince someone to pay for his voyage. He was able to convince Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand of Spain to pay for the trip. He set sail on August 12, 1492 with three ships named the Nina, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria. On October 12, 1492 land was found. It was an island in the Bahamas that Columbus would name San Salvador. Christopher Columbus died in May 20, 1506. He died never knowing he landed in a new land called America. Leif Erikson is the explorer who discovered America. He landed in America about 5 centuries before Christopher Columbus discovered America. Norwegian King Olaf Tryggvason helped for the journey because he can convert people to Christianity in Greenland. On his way back from Greenland Leif Erikson was blown off course to the Americas. Leif used longships to travel which made it more efficient. He landed in America in 1000. His father Erik the Red was Leif Erikson inspiration.
