As I mentioned above, growing up in the Christian faith made me familiar with the readings regarding Judaism and Christianity. While Abraham was in the Old Testament and familiar, I did not fully understand the beginning of the Islamic religion to be derived from Ishmael, Abraham’s first son and the role that Muhammad played. It was interesting to learn of the similarities of the beginning of Islam and Christianity in the context of how different parts have been interpreted and passed down throughout the years. It was especially interesting to learn of the role of women in Islam. From the text, I learned that Muhammad taught that women and men were equal in the mosque.
