“Who am I? Or, what is the nature, task and
purpose of human beings?” (35) Beginning in Genesis, God created mankind in His own image and gave us dominion over all living creatures of the earth (Gen. 1.26). Within the first chapter of the Bible, one may assume from this verse alone that God has called us to solely be stewards to His creations. However, this is only part of God’s plan for us. In studying the Bible further, we find that God created us because it pleased Him and His will. This is plainly state in Revelation 4:11, John puts it simply, “Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.” The Lord did not individually handcraft each of us with special talents and abilities just to be stewards of the Earth and disciple others. Instead, we are specially made to utilize our spiritual gifts and talents to ultimately please Him because it is His will. The answer to the question, according to a Christian perspective, is that we were made by the Lord to please Him because he loves us. However, this love for us is not the same as needing us. If we never were created, God would still be Himself because His is the great I Am (Ex. 3.14).
Regarding the Christian worldview, these questions are exclusively answered according to the Word of God. The Word of God is the only reference to a Christian worldview because it contains absolute truth, which starkly contrasts the subjective truth that has plagued
