Christianity and Buddhism are two different religions that developed and spread contemporaneously in during the Classical Period different territories. Both of them share some similarities as well as differences. Both of these religions were founded based upon different principles taught by different people; in Buddhism’s case Gautama Buddha a thinker and in Christianity’s it is Jesus Christ who is a prophet. These two universal doctrines spread in times of chaos, in which citizens of their own territories were looking forward to achieve salvation of any kind. Although alike these two doctrines didn’t have a same concept of what is divinity is nor they spread in the same societies. In Buddhism they started spreading in the Indian society and for Christianity in the Mediterranean society conquered by Rome. Both of these religions were the most influential and important doctrines which spread during the Classical Period.…

As I was born and raised in a Buddhist family, I have always followed and practiced the doctrines and beliefs of Buddhism. Buddhism has become one of the most dominant parts in my life which guides me to a fulfilled spiritual life and proper attitudes towards other beings. Nevertheless, throughout the course about world religions that I am taking, I have decided to experience some festivals and rituals in other religions as the way to get exposed to the cultural diversity of the world. Hence, for my religious service review, I have chosen to study Christianity - one of the most influential and widespread religions. Since I have a friend who is working as social volunteer in Holy Family Catholic Church (1957 Coolidge Street, San Diego, CA 92111), I decided to obtain my realistic approach to Christianity by going to a regular Sunday mass and joining in some youth activities on 11/22/09 to have a deeper and objective comprehension of Christianity.…
Everyone has different beliefs and cultures. Religion is important in our society and every religion is different. Although they all have some similarities. All religions give us some kind of stress and anxiety reducing effect. They also impart us with an emotion of satisfaction and happiness. Religions offers hope that after we die there is another life. Christians believe that you go to heaven, Aboriginals believe that your spirit lives on and returns to significant sights within the country. Cherokee Indians have a similar belief to what happens after death – to Christianity beliefs. Cherokee Indians also believe that you rise up into a heavenly place, but God also gives you a choice of where you would like to go. This written report will compare comparing the three above named religions, and proving and all religions have similarities and something in common.…
In C.E.M. Joad's essay "How Religion Arose, and Why it Flourished," Religion is described as a “psychological need.” Joad explains that we use God as a comfort device. Religious people look to God to abolish their fears that they may have. Joad argues that people are simply afraid of death. Joad claims believing in God is a security blanket; that God will protect them in death. I do not believe that religion is just a psychological device to make our lives better. I have faith and believe in God for the miracles he performs and guidance he provides in my life.…
Hinduism is a way of life. Hindu’s worship multiple deities, but Christians’ only believe in a single God, who created the ethereal and temporal worlds. Hindu’s adorn themselves ornamental clothing that have a specific religious meaning and some Christians wear special trinkets of faith, according to different denominations. Hindu’s are noted to pray three times a day and depending on the denomination, Christians will attend church several times a week to only once a week. Hindu’s believe in reincarnation once death has transpired (Sharma, 2002), while Christians believe upon death, the soul ascends to heaven and the body stays on…

Hinduism is partly revelatory and mostly evolutionary, while Christianity is mostly revelatory and partly evolutionary. Hinduism is a continuously evolving religion, not founded by a particular person or prophet and shaped by the collective wisdom of enlightened masters, incarnations and revelations of God accumulated over several millenniums. It is regarded as an eternal religion (Sanatana Dharma) by its followers. Christianity is founded by Jesus Christ. To be a Christian, one should invariably believe in the way of Jesus only and acknowledge him as the only savior. Central to Christianity are the life and teachings of Jesus Christ and the glory of God, as described by witnesses and others in the old and new testaments of the Bible.…
Christianity is considered a religion that closely follows the teachings of Jesus Christ, who they believe is the Savior of the world. Buddhism is considered a religion that follows the teachings and the example set by the Buddha. Christians idolize and emphasize Jesus Christ, while “Buddhists prefer to not emphasize him, but rather what he taught.” (Partridge 202). Buddhism and Christianity are different religions that have some similar beliefs and many different ones.…
Everyone goes through suffering at some point in life. Some suffer from diseases and physical pain, while others suffer from emotional and mental pain. Sometimes, the suffering stops, in others it just keeps on going. As stated by Jimmy Whales, the founder of Wikipedia, “suffering is an individual's basic affective experience of unpleasantness and aversion associated with harm or threat of harm.” In other words, no one likes to suffer, yet, when life makes you, there is nothing you can do about it. In the play, “Death of a Salesman,” by Arthur Miller, Biff Loman, Willy Loman’s son suffers the most from Willy’s illusions and imaginations by having Willy lack parental guidance since the beginning, Willy thinking appearance in the key to success,…
As I thought about this paper, I wanted to explore a religion that I had little knowledge about so I chose Hinduism. In thinking about what little I previously knew about the Hindu religion my knowledge was very limited indeed! In this paper I will discuss what I have done in order to learn more about Hinduism. I will discuss any misconceptions I may have had and how they have changed. Also, I will try to figure out a way to minimize misconceptions.…
Christianity in the Indian subcontinent is almost as old as Christianity in its birthplace. There is a strong tradition in south India that St. Thomas the Apostle introduced Christianity in India in 52 AD. ‘St. Thomas Christians’ there are a living proof of it. Yet, many a Muslim and Hindu in India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh wrongly consider Christianity a recent phenomenon and a foreign one at that.…
Although religions today take on many shapes and forms, and may seem so dramatically different from each other, in order to study and understand these religions, their similarities must be identified. This paper will first present a definition of religion that will connect to all religions at the simplest base. Then this paper will examine the common practices and experiences that are present in both the primary religions of the world, as well as the indigenous religions. Finally, this paper will discuss the issues that are critical to the academic study of religions.…
