There are some differences between Christianity and other religions. One huge difference being the God we worship is not the same God that other religions worship. Christianity has parts that are comparable …show more content…
Some early religions seem to be a human construct because they worshiped gods based on their needs. The region you were located in would influence the God’s you had. For example, if you lived by the sea, your god would be the god of the sea. You would pray for your god to provide fish. If you lived in the desert, your god would be the god of the rain. You would pray for that god to provide rain. Going off of this philosophy, it seems like major world religions take the same concept. This is an oversimplification, so keep in mind that I do not mean all parts of religion are human constructed. However, in our individualist society, it seems like a human construct to say that God has an individual will for our lives. In other countries, that are not individualist, they would speak of a universal will that we are supposed to find our place in. Since there are different ideas of God’s Will, it seems that at least one of these ideas has to be a human construct. I attended a Christian conference in Washington D.C. that promoted, “to be a Christian, is to be a Republican.” This “Christian belief” is human constructed, as is political parties. There are other areas in Christianity that seem human constructed, mainly parts of Christianity that Christians cannot agree upon. It seems plausible that when two ideas are opposites, that at best, one of them is true. If one of …show more content…
They seem to say that their religion is all right and other religions are all wrong. Sometimes, Christians fail to recognize the similarities between their religion and other world religions. As we saw earlier, there is some overlap, so we cannot say that other religions have it all wrong. I think we can learn things about human nature and philosophy through other religions. Counseling is based of Buddhism. This does not mean counseling is wrong and that Christians cannot partake in counseling. For many, counseling has been seen as helpful. Christians have embraced counseling. Many Christians feel lead to be a counselor and provide “Christian counseling.” Personally, I think we should view other religions as seeking truth as best they can. They are a product of their environment, as are we. We were born into a Christian environment and became Christians. They were born into an environment that endorses other religions and they adhere to that other religion. There are exceptions, but the norm is to adhere to the religion that those around you adhere too. I worked at a drug and alcohol rehab center this summer. It was a twelve step program so each resident was required to choose a higher power. Having a higher power helped them in their recovery, but not everyone could handle having the Christian God as their higher power. In time, some of these residents found the Christian God to be the true God. Before they did, they
