Christopher Columbus Reaction

Columbus, the man who discovered the new world, infact did not discover it, for it was inhabited by migrants from Asia, more than fifteen thousand years ago, almost one thousand years before Columbus landed in America. Christopher Columbus was, despite the arguments a Genoan man and infact Christian, and he had two brothers and a sister. He sailed a thirty-three day trip on his first voyage and ‘found’ America on October twelfth. But, before this, Columbus had to go through the queen in order to receive the money needed to go on his voyages. He was denied twice before finally being given permission in 1492. When he landed he believed he was in the Indies and had even convinced his crew of about ninety boys and men. Christopher found naked inhabitants who were “gentle and naive” upon reaching the new world, and spoke greatly of them in his journals. Before being called America (which was given its name because of the sailor Amerigo), the land was referred to as the new world, which a Venetian printer came up with in 1504. He many not have been the first of people to be there but it was because of him that the Europeans would later inhabit the land. It is crazy to think that this one man named many of the islands along the coast and even crazier that we still call many of them the same names. Although he did great things I still believe that Christopher was in the wrong for many things in his journey, he took natives from their home to showcase them back in Europe. He also was a big factor in bringing over many diseases and losing many men during the expeditions. All in all, Christopher is like anyone else, he made mistakes and he did some amazing
