Christopher Columbus Research Paper
Christopher Columbus was born between August and October 1451 in Genoa, Italy. After 41 years, Christopher finally began his first voyage on August 3, C.1492. He had three ships, the Pinta, the Niña and the Santa Maria which the Queen and King of Spain gave to him for his first voyage. According to gilder lehrman, ‘Christopher sailed to the Bahamas that he called San Salvador but the indigenous people called it Guanahani. For nearly five months, Columbus explored the Caribbean Sea, Specifically the islands of Juana (Cuba) and Hispaniola (Santo Domingo), before returning to Spain.’ The gold, parrots, spice, and humans captives Columbus displayed for his sovereigns at Barcelona convinced all of the need for a rapid second voyage. 24, C.1498 he set sail to the Americas on his second voyage. Columbus managed at least 17 ships out from Cádiz. Colonization and Christian evangelization were openly included this time in the plans, and a group of friars shipped with him. On May 30th C.1498 he began his third voyage. He explored Trinidad, Tobago, Grenada and Venezuela. Us history writes, ‘The King and Queen king and queen sent Francisco de Bobadilla to investigate on christopher.’ Soon Francisco discovered that the treaty was in bad conditions so he arrested christopher and put him in chains. On May 11, 1502, Christopher Columbus set out on his final voyage to the New World. He had four ships and his mission was to explore unknown areas to the west of the Caribbean sea, hopefully finding a passage west to the orient, Columbus did explore parts of southern Central America, but his ships, damaged by a hurricane and termites, ships fell apart while he was exploring. Columbus and his men were stranded on Jamaica for about a year before being rescued. Four years later, Christopher Columbus died at a poor inn on May 20th, 1506 Valladolid, Spain. ‘Christopher died from Congestive heart failure or Reiter's Syndrome, ‘an illness caused by intestinal bacterial infections or sexually transmitted diseases like gonorrhea.’ No one is sure how old Columbus was at the time of his death, but historians place his age at around 55. His last words were, “Into thy hands, O lord, I command my soul.” In 1595 Columbus’ remains were taken to the new world, and they are now at Havana.
