Christopher's Short Story Of An Hour

Firstly, Christopher was demonstrated as a disabled child who should not have his own independence, when his dad read the book Christopher was writing and asked Christopher about the rules he had told Christopher to follow, Christopher said “not to mention Mr. Shears’ name in our house and not to go asking Ms. Shears or anyone about who killed that bloody dog. And not to go trespassing in other people’s gardens. And to stop this ridiculous bloody detective game. Except I haven’t done any of those things. ” page. 81. Christopher states all the rules that his father has put for him, and he will not be able to keep on writing his book which demonstrates Christopher’s lack of independence and that he always has to follow the rules that his dad had put for him.
However Christopher rebels allot through his process of writing his book, by telling “white lies” to cover up that he has been breaking his dad’s rules, which was demonstrated by Christopher when he was investigating the mystery of the murdered dog, and his dad asked where has he been, Christopher said “"I have been out." This is called a white lie.
A white lie is not a lie at all. It is where you tell the truth but you do not tell all of the truth.” Which shows that Christopher knew that his dad is going to be upset with him if he tells him that he has been investigating. In spite of Christopher’s dad’s rules, Christopher breaks the rules knowing that his dad will get upset with him, demonstrating his pursuit of
independence. Therefore, Christopher at the beginning of the novel is completely dependent on his father due to his disability which stands between Christopher and his ambitions.
