Chronic bronchitis is the inflammation of the lining of the bronchial tubes, which carry air to and from the lungs. what happens in the body, is a continuous inflammation and low-grade infection of the bronchi. The inflammation in the associated bronchioles is responsible for most of the airflow obstruction. It involves the excessive secretion of mucus and certain pathologic changes in the bronchial structure. It is usually prolonged due to exposure to bronchial irritants, like cigarette smoking.

COPD stands for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. It is typically caused by inhaled irritants such as tobacco smoke. It is a chronic inflammation of the airways, lung tissue, and pulmonary blood vessels. It limits air flow and is irreversible. The inflammation causes excess mucus production. This results in chronic cough, dyspnea, and wheezing. The inflammation response is caused by a grouping of cells in the airways from neutrophils, T-lmyphocytes, and other inflammatory cells that trigger…

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a progressive lung disease that gradually affects a personal ability to breath. COPD is an ailment that destroys the tissues of the lungs where oxygen is exchanged which results in coughing, that produces excessive amounts of mucus, and shortness of breath caused by inflammation and stiffening of the airways. In this condition, there is an obstruction in the lungs which causes less air oxygen to reach the necessary tissues which make it more difficult to dispose of carbon dioxide. Through the progression of the disease it becomes more challenging to remain active due to shortness of breath.…

While those who are diagnosed with CF generally have issues breathing, those who are also surrounded by tobacco smoke and pollution breathing increasingly worsens. Smoking itself increase the likelihood of continuous lung infection, but combined with CF it allows the entrance of more infections. The fine particles in air pollution enter the patient’s lungs as they breath in, allowing them to become stuck in the thick mucus. When the particles begin the mix with the mucus it allows for more infections to occur. While the Cilia inside the lungs is coated with the thick mucus, it is impossible for it to do its job, cleaning the lungs. While the environment affects the state of the disease, faulty genes create…

Bronchiectasis is an important cause of respiratory morbidity but one that has generally had a low profile. The prevalence of this condition varies but is common in certain indigenous populations and, anecdotally, in developing nations. It also has been recently recognised to be an ongoing problem in developed countries. As bronchiectasis is heterogeneous with a large number of predisposing factors and, generally, a long clinical history, the pathogenesis has not been well defined. The combination of a microbial insult and a defect in host defence allow the establishment of persistent bronchial infection and inflammation leading to progressive lung damage. Lung function testing usually demonstrates a mild to moderate obstructive pattern, which arises from inflammation in the small airways. There are a number of risk factors associated with this condition, which is commonly idiopathic. The microbiology of bronchiectasis is complex and changes as the disease progresses. The diagnosis is made by a combination of clinical symptoms and high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) demonstrating abnormal airway dilatation.…

The affects to breathing occur due to obstructive airways caused by production of mucous from continuous inflammation and by constrictive airways caused by the narrowing of the bronchial tubes from spasms, scar tissue, reactive airways, infections of the lung, and the continuous response to irritating substances within the environment. Pollution, smoking, and other irritating substances cause the negative and damaging cascade of events that follow.…
