“The smell, urine mixed with corncakes, hits me first,”(Page 92). When she first meets Rye, Rye seems to be a nice and sweet person who even offers to share homemade corncakes. But suspicion rises by Rye’s continuous urge for Cia to have one and when Rye’s arrogance starts to show. The urine on the corncakes shows her failed plan of sabotage and teaches Cia to be more wary of people she may trust. This tip is more relevant in the story during the fourth test when they are out in the barren wasteland trying to find their way back and trusting someone could be life or death. This lesson can also be relevant in real life because some people may seem to have nice intentions but could be dangerous. This lesson usually instilled in us as kids when our parents say,”Don’t take candy from strangers,” but The Testing uses this and puts it in a more dangerous and competitive
