Cindy Jackson.
I would have to say that she has always looked to fit in. She never felt like herself growing up until she grew up and found herself. Her self esteem has always been low by her saying she never fit in with the cheerleaders. Her presentation is what is making her money now. She needs to look good to make good money. I think in her bio on her website she says things that don’t really pertain to the product and you get lost while reading it or at least I did, I got bored. She should say a little more about the product and what or how it came about. I don’t think she has a good self esteem and that is why she created this product to make her feel better about her own self. It was like she was trying to get her Barbie dolls life or the one she dreamed up for her Barbie doll. She wants woman to look at this product to feel better about themselves, when in all reality she looked at cosmetic surgery to feel better and then thought of a product to sell to try to make some money.

The physical attractiveness factor in here is due to it is a product that you use to make yourself feel better about yourself. She should look and feel good about herself so that she can sell her products. If you have someone who don’t take care of themselves trying to sell you a product about looking good you really aren’t going to buy that because they don’t look that great. Now when you have someone who looks good and uses a product them usually you are more willing to buy their product. Physical attractiveness is all around us. In today’s society we are supposed to look a certain way and act a certain way it isn’t right. I think that she used the cosmetic surgery to feel better about herself and then went and built a business around feeling better and trying to sell a product about beauty.
The mass media influences Cindy by saying good things about her. They get the word out there for her to sell more products. They say she is beautiful they also say she has had plastic surgery. They say

She believes that plastic surgery should only be a right when reconstructive because aesthetic surgery, more often than not, is problematic within the media. “The people in media have a large influence in other people’s lives.” Although we may not explicitly chase after these body types,” she says “we allow for these images to subconsciously tell us that is what we also want to look like.” The two young women, through their comments, seem to disagree with a point of view that Edmonds brings up regarding cosmetic surgery having a direct relationship to health. For these young women, there appears to be a disconnect in terms of aesthetic surgery and health. Plastic surgery, only when considered reconstructive, appears to serve a social purpose. On the other hand, most people that Edmonds spoke with seemed to think that both aesthetic and reconstructive surgery are a part of health, explaining why most public hospitals offer it for free even when the funds are allocated only for reconstructive surgery. Surgeons have made an argument that since cosmetic surgery can be psychological, it coincides with mental health and something worth treating (Edmonds…

In the short story “By the Waters of Babylon” written by Stephen Vincent Benet there is a post apocalyptic setting where there is the aspect of the fear of the unknown. In The Guardian’s article about the bombing of Guernica, Spain, the reporter describes what they had witnessed when visiting the destroyed town. There was fire, ruin, death, and catastrophe interpreted in both writings. Is this a coincidence? I don’t believe this to be so because of the fact that they both deal with a lot of the same aspects of destruction and both were produced or occurred in the same year.…

The story I went with was One More To Lake by E.B White. To me his story felt poetic. He was mesmerized by the smells of the cabin he would stay in as a child. Reason being that I chose poetic writing for E.B White is because how he carefully he chose his words for his story. “I guess I remembered clearest of all the mornings, when the lake was cool and motionless, remembered how the bedroom smelled of lumber it was made of and of the wet woods whose scent entered the screen” (White 97).…

    Cindy Sherman

Cindy Sherman was one of the well known and most respected photographers in the late twentieth century. Rather than doing self portraits for her photographs, Sherman depicted herself in the roles of B- movie actresses. On one level, Sherman’s work appears to be subversively linked to ‘low’ art characterized by ‘b-grade’ film and photography, on another level, her work is regarded as the modernist ideal of the ‘high' art object. Sherman has raised challenging and important questions about the role and representation of women in society, the media and the nature of the creation of art. Sherman has been acclaimed as the subversive feminist that has boldly confronted issues concerning the female body. Even though some critics look at Cindy’s works as demining the women and exposing the women into low standards through her photographs, Cindy had a strong message for the viewers. In 1992 Sherman embarked on a series of photographs now referred to as "Sex Pictures." Sherman is not in any of these photographs for the first time in her career as an artist, yet she uses dolls and prosthetic body parts posed in highly sexual poses. She chose to often photograph up close and in color both female and male body parts which were purposely meant to shock the viewers. Sherman continued to work on these photographs for some time and continued to experiment with the use of dolls and other replacements for what had previously been herself. Critiques imply that the viewer is guilty for the negative readings of Sherman’s images. In a way Sherman’s constructed image of woman is innocent, and the way we interpret it is based on our social and cultural knowledge. Referring to the reaction of a gallery visitor who criticized Sherman for presenting women as sex objects, I would say that the visitor’s anger comes from a sense of his own involvement because the images speak not only to him but from him. Critiques depicted Sherman as a whore for producing such photographs but…

In today’s society we have a distorted view of beauty. We see thin as good and women have actually convinced themselves that the skinnier the better. In our world today, a Barbie is a figure of beauty and perfection. Women are willing to go through surgery in order to look like Barbie. There is something completely wrong with that, and leads my thoughts to “How did it get to this?”.…

Cindy Sherman ranks as probably one of the best camera artists who use themselves as a medium of expression. Although he work consists of photographs of herself, her works should not be considered to be merely self-portraits: they are much more than that. She has transformed and staged herself as an unnamed actresses in undefined B-grade movies, make-believe television characters, pretend porn stars, undifferentiated young women in ambivalent emotional states, fashion mannequins, monsters from fairy tales and those which she has created, bodies with deformities, and numbers of grotesque images. Her works have been highly touted by a wide range of viewers, from feminist political groups to politically free mainstream artists, and her photography is an important expression of the investigation and culture of racial identity as well as sexual identity from 1970 on.…

Throughout the world, people are influenced by the physical attractiveness of an individual. A person’s physical attractiveness is determined by genetics, physical, and non-physical factors. She looks to continually improve her physical attractiveness by constant body modifications. Soon after the release of her Vanity Fair cover, Jenner assured the public that she aimed to use her platform to address issues facing the transgender community. In an interview with The Advocate, Jenner revealed that her new mission in life was to “promote the welfare of transgender people” (Breen). Despite her intentions, Jenner faced tremendous backlash from the trans community. Trans advocates argued Jenner was overemphasizing femininity and reinforcing the deeply entrenched stereotypes of women by emphasizing the cosmetic difficulties she faces. Elinor Burkett of The New York Times eloquently asserted that “Nail polish does not a woman make” when Jenner revealed that she looked forward most to openly wearing nail polish. In I am Cait, the cinematography portrays Jenner as any other cisgender celebrity, focusing on her nail collection and beauty products instead of stressing issues facing the trans community. As Jenner desperately tries to make a point on bullying, the camera pans away from her to focus on her manicure (Maerz). The superficiality of the show is disappointing to transgenders who were anticipating the increased awareness and support promised by Jenner. However, it is worthy to note that without feminine elements, I am Cait may not have come to fruition. Jenner’s capabilities as a celebrity are limited by how effective she is in generating profit for media companies such as E!. Due to the controversial nature of the trans community, reliance on bringing trans awareness does not align with the image of E! nor the demographic of its viewers. Jenner’s ability to continue trans awareness is based on a symbiotic relationship with E!. Jenner is able to continue trans awareness as long as I am Cait pertains to the viewership of E! by involving materialistic…

Cindy Jackson in my opinion has major issues. She thinks beauty is on the outside and does whatever she can to make herself look like an imaginary person. It seems to me that she is doing all this to try to make money. Her website is all about selling cosmetics. In which I am betting she doesn’t even use herself, because if there is a flaw in her mind she corrects it with surgery, so why does she need cosmetics? I think that her self-esteem is still extremely low even after all the surgeries and it has been from the start.…

On the opposite side, cosmetic surgery can be applied for several reasons. One of them is looking for example as a certain idol, celebrity or any public figure. This aim is becoming very redundant between women who seek having this actress’ nose or that singer’s lips. From this way of thinking, we can say that cosmetic surgery promotes a kind of stereotype. For that, the uniqueness of each individual is abolished. For this way of interpretation, I stand on the same shore as the author.…

Physical beauty is not something you can control as easy as your inner beauty. I know that we have plastic surgeons and various diet plans to help our physical beauty but we have to work with the beauty that God gave us. Physical beauty cannot be determined by one individual because one person might think that someone is attractive, physically, but another has a different idea of attractiveness. Therein lies the statement "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder." The people that have the same view of…
