NOSFERATU
The movie “Nosferatu” is a great movie, which a lot of aspects of filmmaking and cinema can be observed. The present movies made about vampires still have the same qualities and characteristics as this movie, which was made at 1920s. Along with this, how sexuality is expressed and shadows are used are the other two aspects that might catch audiences attention. Many production companies have been making movies and TV series about vampires for many years. Society, is interested in the creepy, hallow and the unusual. Especially in countries where there are myths about vampires, and in such societies where Halloween is celebrated. The “vampire” image displayed in Nosferatu has many similar aspects as the vampires displayed in today’s film productions. Vampires are dressed the same way; they have the same killing abilities, the same wants, the same needs. There is the whole concept of biting from the neck and sucking blood and many more. These similarities make us realize that, this movie can actually be considered as one of the important movies, where the whole concept of vampire’s were first based on and were fully expressed in cinema. It can be easily observed that many filmic elements have stayed the same since the time this film was released, until the present times. This is also the reason, why many people, is known to consider this movie as a true masterpiece. Today, sexuality is still one of the biggest taboos. Even though it has been more expressed in the present movies, especially in the past it was barely expressed throughout movies. Producers were not able to predict how society would react towards sexuality used in their films, and do to the thoughts and cultural qualities only little amounts of sexuality were used in films.
