City Commission Meeting: Mission, Texas
On February 23, 2015 at approximately 5:00 PM, the City of Mission Council Members, City Manager, and Mayor enter the meeting room. Mayor Beto Salinas begins by welcoming everyone for showing up and having interest in bettering the city of Mission. He then turns the floor over to City Manager Martin Garza who then gives the prayer, invocation, and introduction. Mr. Garza then advises the floor is open and proceeds to announce what was on the agenda for the day.

The first item on the agenda was the Community Development Block Grant. It is a program that helps poor residence in rule run down houses receive grants for a rebuild. The City employee in charge of running said grant was requesting a 5,000 a year raised. It was discussed to the council and the citizens that said employee would quit and take a job with another city if his demands were not met. It was then pointed out that his salary at the time was under other cities with the same amount of citizens and that it would put him flush with the rest of the completion. It was brought to the boards attention that the State grant Border Star was going to resume for the month of March until the funds were spent (no exact date given). Border Star is a grant given by the state that for extra patrol near the border of Mexico. The city manager was assigned the task of making liaison with the Chief of Police as far as shifts, locations, and distribution of hours per shift. It was also brought to the Mayors attention that the 15 vehicles that were purchased by the police department have arrived and will begin being striped in the month of March.
The City manager then advised that all pertaining business was done and the floor was open to any concerns. Sadly no one stepped up and requested to speak so the meeting came to a close. I hate to say that I am looking for something intelligent to say in closing but all that comes to me is this: new business means new money for the city and the new money in the city is what pays for new vehicles, jobs, and other things needed for the

    The story begins at a local Wal-Mart super center, its Friday, payday. As employees open their paychecks they are awaiting their annual raise.
