Recently a white man shot at police, ran, and resisted arrest. That same man is in jail while awaiting a trial. Whilst black men, women, and children are being killed for failing to signal a turn or playing in the street or even calling authorities for help. Anyone could see how civil disobedience is needed to stop cruel and horrific things like this from happening every day in America. Peaceful protests demanding the changing of a government or a court system is a good thing and impacts a free society in a good way, in fact, the best way possible. The whole idea of a free society anyways is a society where people have the right to voice their opinions and talk about things that make the current state of a society unlivable. The Black Lives Matter movement, La Raza Unida, and Feminism are all examples of marginalized people gathering together to highlight a certain issue they are dealing within, within the country. While, yes, protests can get out of hand and quickly turn to riots and violence. More often than not the protests are peaceful and calm, thus defining these protests as civil disobedience. So yes, civil disobedience impacts a free society in a positive manner, and we as a people, we the students have the power to change things and end oppression and injustice. We the students are the next generation, soon we will be leading this country and hopefully, we can make a society where civil disobedience isn’t censored or mocked but not needed all
