Civil Rights And Social Injustice Analysis
Civil rights and social injustice has always been a fascinating subject to me. This unit is definitely my favorite because I was able to explore something I am truly interested in and something that is applied to everyday life. This unit showed me how the amendments in our Bill of Rights can be applied to everyday life. Things like how First Amendment validated burning of the U.S Flag (Texas v Johnson), and how the Right to Privacy justified the decision of abortion in the Roe v Wade trial. I also learned how discrimination is not only found in within gender and racial minorities, but also in the physically disabled (American Disability Act) and the LGBT community (same-sex marriage decision).
The hardest part would have to be the first quiz
where it discussed the structure of the federal courts. However, now I know things like the significance of the ‘stare decis’ principle and the Supreme Court Justices like Earl Warren and Warren Burger.
