Soldiers Perspective I long for my family, as it is just a week before Christmas. But I mustn’t I have to stay at camp and not give up like the others. Yes I must say it has been a long rode to get here but the best present would be, Freedom. Agh, my stomach how it aches we haven’t had a proper meal in days. All I’ve had is a flour mixed with water as if you could call that a meal. I think I hear footsteps coming I have to turn off the candle. I suppose I’ll finish the letter to my family tomorrow.

Oh how I hope they receive by Christmas morning you see my little boy is sick and I would like to her back on how they are. The soldier in which was one of my dozen bunk mates has passed yesterday of smallpox. It seems like nothing will ever be happy again in valley forge. General Washington is trying to lift our sprits but to say the least it still seems gloomy.
