In Chicago an elementary school Clara Shih attended she was placed in special class for students with speech impediments because school didn’t have English as a second language program. In the column of The New York Times Shih comments situation: “It worked out well because we had to pronounce sounds over and over, and I’m told that I don’t have an accent today”. After an elementary school Shih went to Illinois Mathematics and Sciences Academy. She had said that her high school showed her that anything is possible and you are never too young to think big. She worked as a computer programmer for Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory a.k.a Fermilab at age 15. While she was studying in Stanford she also worked as a software engineer intern for Microsoft and before that she had worked as an intern for Oracle. During her internship for Microsoft she developed RSS news aggregator for Outlook. As if that was not enough she also worked as a volunteer in East Palo Alto where she taught and encouraged low-income elementary students get interest with math, sciences and technology. That experience inspired her to found Camp Amelia Technology Literacy Group in 2003. It was non-profit and provided free computer training and software for young people. Camp Amelia was later merged with SearchLit.org. During her studies in the UK she worked for Google as a part of corporate strategy
