Classical Era Symphony What is symphony exactly? A symphony is derived from Greek words syn., “together” and phone, “sounding”. A symphony is an extended work for orchestra typically consisting of large sections or movements. The symphony that we know today originated from the 18th century opera sinfonia. This type of music has fast movement, slow movement, and dance like movement that were used in the 18th century. He could play multiple instruments. Mozart did a variety of venues and patrons. He also composed hundreds of works, that included symphonies, operas and so many more. Mozart wrote his first symphony in 1764 and his last symphony in August 1788. Another important composer of this time was Ludwin Van Beethoven. Beethoven made his first performance at age 7 ½. One of Beethoven’s first work published was 9 variations in C minor for piano. I also thought it was interesting, The only opera he ever wrote was Leonore. Symphony No. 5 is perhaps the most famous symphony Beethoven ever wrote. “Franz Joseph Haydn was among the creators of the fundamental genres of classical music, and his influence upon later composers is immense. Haydn’s most celebrated pupil was Ludwig van Beethoven, and his musical form casts a huge shadow over the music of subsequent composers such as Schubert, Mendelssohn and Brahms.” Franz started at age 8 to sing in a choir. He then learned how to play violin. Franz is even considered an engineer of classical style. With writing about the symphony classical Era I found myself more drawn to the composers. With being only 23 years old, before taking this class I have heard of a lot of these composers one of the main ones being Beethoven. It’s great to learn about the history of symphonies. Other than writing about the classical symphony era, it was very interesting learning so many interesting facts about each composer.
