Do you like funny/action movies? In my opinion, I love funny/action movies like “The Secret life of Walter Mitty”, about a young man and everywhere he goes, he daydreams of a girl name Cheryl Melhoff . One day Walter was pasting around in New York. He had received a phone call from a random man on the phone, but surprisingly it was Todd from E-harmony. Todd was helping Walter with his profile and explaining how he could send a wink to Cheryl to capture her attention. After a while Walter imagined that he smelled burning fire in the building, so he quickly ran and saved the love of his life, Cheryl. Cheryl was impressed by how he took the time to save her and how he waited to finally get that kiss he been waiting for. Walter ended up daydreaming about Cheryl everywhere he went. I found this movie really thrilling and enjoyable.…
Romance and comedy are commonly used in combination as a genre in films. Garry Marshall prefers the romantic-comedy genre to entertain audiences as well as educate them on reality. His main message behind these films is that life is not a fairytale and it doesn’t always turn out the way it is planned or expected to. For example in Valentines Day Reed proposes to his girlfriend on the morning of Valentines Day, he is overjoyed when she says yes until he comes home later on in the movie to find that she is leaving him. Another example is in The Princess Diaries when Mia’s life is turned upside down after she finds out that she is a princess, she soon learns that being a princess isn’t as easy as she thought it would be. While all of these films share a similarity in their message and the genre, Garry Marshall’s work is not instantly recognizable due to the fact that there are so many other films, directed by different filmmakers that are similar in their message and the genre.…

According to The Hollywood Reporter, who polled almost everyone in the entertainment industry, the answer is The Godfather; according to the American Film Institute (AFI), who have worked some fifty years to preserve and honor motion pictures and its performers, Citizen Kane is the greatest movie of all time; and according to the Internet Movie Database (IMDB), one of the most reliable databases for movie and industry information, The Shawshank Redemption rated by fans and others is the greatest movie of all time; however, polls are not always reliable, especially when its voters are required to select from a bank of films or pressured…
The variety of films mentioned aims to provide an extensive inquiry into both modern and traditional films. To substantiate this inquiry, an article by Paste Magazine has been supplemented, containing some of the most well-known and endorsed films of the 21st century. The logic behind including an article of this nature is to examine mainstream/dominant culture as it communicates the disposition and context of…
All of these films shared an underdog mentality, and had to fight to be funded and distributed by the studios. However, with each unexpected success, the studios slowly started to realise that these younger directors were able to create films that resonated massively with modern audiences. As they started to lower their defences, a new generation of filmmakers who wanted to break into Hollywood suddenly found doors being opened to them. A new wave of creativity came crashing into Hollywood, spawning a decade of innovative, challenging and artistic…
What makes a good movie? An engaging plotline, talented actors and actresses; perhaps a happy ending? Movies have always been an important part of American culture; of course, they can entertain us but they can also hold up mirrors to society, raising awareness about issues we need to pay attention to, and help us form opinions. But it’s getting harder and harder to find good movies in current theaters. Current films are being made in an age where almost any movie can pass as a good one, not necessarily due to talent or skill, but due to the weakening of the standards we once held our films up to. The 1930 Motion Picture Production Code gave filmmakers a set of guidelines that let only the most talented films reach audiences; it provided audiences with quality films that didn’t have to sacrifice artistry for explanation or lean on pointless vulgarities to catch audiences’ attentions; it acted as a filter that allowed only the finer-made films to be shown to the people who loved them and kept coming back to see them. The 1930s film code was the superior code because it gave the public superior films.…
Films that I particularly favor are thrillers. One reason Thrillers become so enjoyable for me, a sense of diversion is created making the viewers more indulge in the movie all the way to the ending. The plots are usually twisted, climatic, suspenseful and intelligence is often use far as the writing perspective to result in an ecliptic viewing of the movie. A really great thriller will usually bring a shock factor by the climax, then the movie will receive a better understanding from the beginning to end. Another genre of films I enjoy are Musicals they are fashionable and express emotions through singing. I am really into lyricism so I enjoy comparing the actual expression of the each character's individual story and the progression…

In our world today, box offices are flooded with giddy teenagers seeking a thrill from horror movies. Horror movies date back all the way to the 1890’s so what is it exactly that keeps viewers wanting more? According to Isabel Cristina Pinedo, there are four key elements to the success of the contemporary horror film. Today’s successful films constitute a violent disruption of the everyday world, transgress and violate boundaries, throw into question the validity of rationality, and repudiate narrative closure. The movie Final Destination (2000) is a more recent horror film that consists of three out of four of Pinedo’s elements. While the movie does not apply to all four elements, the characteristics of the three present are strong enough to allow the film to still be considered a horror film.…

Every so often a movie is released with such tense anticipation and glamorous visual art that the public is drawn to this dramatic rendition of life in the theatre. For even just two hours or so, you are put into a different lifestyle. Action, drama or comedy it may be. We are thrust into a different way of thinking. We are forced to learn the characters thoughts and feelings. The hard work and artistic skill that goes into these magnificent films is not an easy thing to mimic. Out of the thousands of movies released worldwide each year only a handful are truly worthy of the label film art. Most of the great movies are either produced by a multi million dollar company that hired a director with quite a bit of experience under his belt, or are made with little money and slowly find their way into the film business due to…
Movies are a very personal preference. There are many different categories of movie and some are very enjoyable to certain people while others are not. The writer of the essay really enjoys action movies, science fiction, and fantasy. For the writer it is the thrill of the escape to a world where events are extra ordinary. The movies allow the writer to escape for those couple of hours and to feel like he is a part of that world. The writer does not enjoy romantic…
