Jim became a teacher out of a strong desire to “have a chance to impact the leaders of tomorrow.” Jim went to Texas State University where he achieved his Bachelor’s Degree in Education and later to Vandercook College for his Master’s Degree. Again, Jim was quick with his answer. “Psychology and Classroom Management are two of the first came into my mind”, Jim said. “It is always a good idea to learn why children do the things they do and how what we do impacts them and your psychology classes will be of great benefit to you and to your students. Since becoming a teacher, Jim has used his experience in the classroom to fuel his drive in the courtroom. Jim has been working for 6 years with an education law firm as the legal assistant to one of the top education lawyers, Randall Gunter. Jim says that “If you really want to see the ugly inner machinations of education, get into educational law.
He states “It’s the politics of education that is what is ugly. You know “Love the kids, hate the politics”.
In conclusion, I asked Jim what advice he would give anyone thinking of becoming an educator. His response summed up his approach to education well, “Learn all you can in college, never settle for laziness and know that every child deserves our very best,
