Claude Lorrain: Art Analysis
I chose to write about Seaport with the Embarkation of Saint Ursula by Claude Lorrain which is displayed in the National Gallery of Art in London. It is an oil on canvas painting which was completed in 1641. I chose this painting because I enjoy taking trips and there was something about the ships and embarkation which caught my attention. I love to travel so I am typically drawn to things which have ships, airplanes, or any type of voyage. I think the artist was capturing a distinct event in history through their painting. The colors are predominately cold with a lot of blues and whites. I would say it has more horizontal lines, which might be due to the horizon and horizontal lines on the ships and stone facades. The painting is a representational

The two images I chose for the analysis paper are Martini, Simone and Lippo Memmi, Annunciation with Saints Ansanus and Margherita (1333) and Brunelleschi, Filippo, Dome of Florence Cathedral (1420-36). The reason I chose these are because they relate to the Catholic religion in different ways. The Annunciation with Saints Ansanus and Margherita was the beginning of the Catholic art during the Gothic time period while the Dome of Florence Cathedral was not only a masterpiece of artwork it was also a breakthrough for the construction during that time and for the rest of history.…

For my written analysis, I found this beautiful painting by artist Andrew Palyanov, called Final Boat. The atmospheric perspective of this piece is haunting, demonstrating implied depth and distance despite the fog that only partially obscures the autumn setting. Vertical placement is well-represented, first with a majestic tree closest to the foreground, so close that we can see the details of each leaf and branch. Additionally, the foreground contains a small rowboat, as well as the shallows of the water where tree branches are reflected from directly above. In the middle ground are the gazebo, as well as still more trees on a spit of land that jutts out into the water to overlap the trees on the far side.…

Just a little bit off from the middle of the painting there is a structure not unlike Stone Hedge in England on top of a hill. Below it there is a river with small sailing ships going around, and on the bank there is a village filled with lots of wooden structures and even further left you can see a man using oxen to plow a field. On the other side of the painting you can see another section of the river where a larger sailing ship is being constructed on its…

One of the most influential artists of the Modern Period of art was James Whistler. Whistler was an accomplished printer and painter and a brief background of the painter allows us to understand Whistler, and why more than any artist of his time, he would be attracted to Japanese woodblock prints called Ukiyo-e. It is also essential to understand the essence of Ukiyo-e, Japanese aesthetics and its migration to the Western world. Additionally, a chronological selection of Whistler’s works must be analyzed showing how he integrated the lessons he learned from his exposure to Ukiyo-e.…

The style of this painting is abstract with simplified and exaggerated aspects. The water and sailboats have all been simplified. The boats that are closer to the front of the painting have been exaggerated more than the others in the distance. There are many horizontal lines within the painting created with the hard, exaggerated brush strokes in the water.…

This piece of art by Richard Watson is based on the story of Pharaoh and the Israelites from the Bible verse, Exodus 14:8. The main focus of the artwork is the hardship of people of color during White supremacy, and it is compared to the suffering Israelites faced under Pharaoh. This piece is an oil painting on a wood panel, and it is a single media brushwork with a combination of images that emphasize black life.…

Impressionism started out in Paris around the 1860's, it is often referred to as one of the first modern painting movements. It started in Europe but quickly caught on and spread to the United States. The painting that started the movement was a painting by Claude Monet, Impressionism: Sunrise, this particular piece by Monet, was the first of its kind. This new style of painting allowed the artists to take their work outdoors, this allowed them to create more realistic landscapes and actually experience many of the elements they were trying to portray. Impressionist paintings put an emphasis on the visual sensations and were a more accurate portrait of what the artist was actually seeing and experiencing. Different painting techniques…

Olmec arts and their iconography are full of mysteries. Many archeologists researched and worked their best to figure out the meaning behind in each different symbol and leave many writing about Olmec arts and their symbol means. The young male stone statue has many similarity in other Olmec sculptures and we can identify the meaning behind this sculpture by comparing with other art works and using credible book wroted by archeologists. Different parts of the young male stone statue (fig.1) might have symbolic importance, representing ‘priests’ or ‘mediators’, these being: human characteristics, headdress, pose, and ceremonial bar.…

What makes a painting iconic? For the most part it’s the buyer, which explains why Jackson Pollock’s number 5 is worth 250 million dollars. However, normally paintings with history and a story behind them are what make them iconic, and nothing has a bigger influence than historic art. What is it about historical leaders that people admire so much? Why after so many years people still fantasies about? Historical art has great influence on societies. It has not only been used to incite revolutions against oppressors, but to also maintain oppressing governments in power. My analysis will concentrate mostly on the similarities and differences of “George Washington Crossing the Delaware” and “Napoleon Crossing the Alps”, two very influential paintings…

The term Post-impressionism is used to describe late 19th century art that rejects the “capture-the-fleeting-moment” attitude of Impressionism and is characterized by bright colors and defined brushstrokes as opposed to the impasto approach of impressionists. Impasto is a technique in which paint is applied so thick onto the canvas that it stands out from the surface, creating a 3-D texture effect. The paint can be mixed on the canvas to achieve a desired color.…

In this essay you will be comparing and contrasting two different types of paintings. The same subject matter but different ideas of the same subject. I will be writing about The Last Supper, which was painted by Giampietrino, after Leonardo da Vinci. He used oil on canvas while painting the piece of art. The year that Giampietrino painted this picture was in 1520. Another work of art that I will be writing about will be The Last supper by Francesco Fontebasso. He painted this picture in 1762 using oil on canvas. As you can see from both types of arts, that they were both painted on oil on canvas and both have the same subject matter which is the last supper that Jesus Christ had. To both of these painting’s in person, you can go to the Royal academy of Arts in London to see the Giampietrino piece and Fontebasso’s piece is found in Museum Fund of the State Hermitage in St Petersburg.…
