CLIMATE PROJECT
Australia
There are three major biomes in Australia:
Tropical
Savanna
Desert
Human Interactions
Climate change impacts are expected to have significant social, economic and environmental consequences worldwide. Ongoing population growth and development in highly urbanized coastal areas will make worse the predicted impacts on the coasts.
Climate
The southern part of the state has a Mediterranean climate. South Australia 's main temperature range is 29 °C (84 °F) in January and 15 °C (59 °F) in July. (Wikipedia, 2014)
The highest maximum temperature was recorded as 50.7 °C (123.3 °F) at Oodnadatta on 2 January 1960, which is also the highest official temperature recorded in Australia. The lowest minimum temperature was −8.2 °C (17.2 °F) at Yongala on 20 July 1976. (Wikipedia, 2014)
Clime Zone
In eastern Australia, rain also falls mostly during the summer, although rain can also fall during the winter months. Since this part of Australia is further from the equator, however, summer months are warmer than winter months. In the southern part of Australia, rain tends to fall more in the winter than in the summer. In eastern and central Australia, little rain falls at all.
Wind
Australia 's air circulation is dominated by high pressure systems which cause a very dry and arid climate. These high pressure systems move with the seasons, which leads to the seasonal rainfall patterns seen in Australia.
Landforms
Since Australia is a very flat continent, it stays warm. Landforms, such as mountains, act as barriers that force air masses to move up and over them. When warm, moist air meets a mountain it is forced to rise. As this warm air rises, it begins to cool down with increased altitude and condensation occurs.
Ocean Currents Places not near an ocean or other large body of water, such as central Australia, tend to have an arid climate.
Climate Changes During the Years
Temperatures in the country have risen following an increasing trend of

Orographic rainfall is a process that leads to precipitation. Its occurance encompasses the hydrosphere, lithosphere and atmosphere. It refers to when mountain ranges or plateaus and interrupts the movement of air mass. As moist air rises, it cools until it reaches a point on a mountain; the water vapor condenses and forms clouds, which eventually leads to rain. This process was clearly seen on fieldwork at Sublime Point where rainfall is more than 1400mm compared to 1100mm at Sydney and 780mm at Campbelltown. With an undulating plateau and costal plain, Sublime Point marks the beginnings of the…

Hot, dry plains contrast with snow-capped mountain ranges and well watered river valleys. Dry climatic environments in which evaporation rates are greater than precipitation. They dominate virtually the whole region, the lack of cloud cover makes nights cool or cold and freezes are possible in the winter. Most places have irregular rains.…

Biological isolation, geological stability and an erratic climate helps to explain how everything in Australia and everything in it. Biological isolation shows how the flora and fauna can easily adapt, in the isolation from other previously connected continents. The geological stability has been quite common in recent years for Australia, because Australia is in the middle of a tectonic plate. An erratic climate affect majorly on reproductive cycles and the survival rate of flora and fauna. These factors have shaped Australian environments uniqueness.…

As shown in this map Australia encounters many earthquakes (most under magnitude5) and the majority of them occur around the South-eastern coast. Other quakes occur in the ocean which explains why the waves from South Australia to Western Australia can be so good at certain times of the year. The way the earth is evolving today may lead to big changes within 100 years and who knows till then Australia could be in the middle of a tectonic plate boundary and there may be many destructive earthquakes within 100…

Explain what causes the "monsoon rain season". The summer season in southeast Asia experiences “monsoon rain seasons”. This occurs when a shallow thermal low develops over Asia’s continental interior, and the air within the low rises and begins to flow counter-clockwise. This motion results in moisture-bearing winds sweeping into land from the ocean. The humid air converges with dryer air from the continent, which has an additional lifting effect and brings the air to its saturation point. Heavy rains and thunderstorms result.…

The difference of climate and weather needs to be understood to comprehend this topic. Weather is defined as ‘The specific condition of the atmosphere at a particular place and time.’ Climate can be defined as ‘the statistics of weather over a set period of time, which is sufficient to determine the characteristics of the statistics’ (WMO) or in simpler terms ‘average meteorological conditions in a certain area over a certain period’ . The time interval selected to be analysed is 50-100 years, limited by the data available.…

Temperatures in the Sugar Gliders habitat vary on what season it is. There are two major seasons in Australia, the wet and dry seasons . Temperatures in the wet season (November-March) at day range from 30- 50oC and decrease to >25oC at night. During the dry season (April-October) the temperature is on average, 15-20oC at day and >16oC at night. Due to the scattered distribution of Sugar Gliders, rainfall may vary but in their environments in Australia, over 100mm of rainwater is needed for their survival. Sugar Gliders are dependent on rainwater to provide approximately 40-50% of their water…
