Explain how visual codes in at least one of the images provided present a particular view point of the world
Visual Codes portrayed in the promotional poster for ‘Clueless’ presents particular a view of the world. These codes include, layout, camera angles, clothing, props, facial expression, body language, symbolism, framing and stereotypes. The images gives the ideology that the more rich you are, the less you will put into school work, you will be more spoilt and therefore will be more popular. This higher society is presented through the negative attitudes and values of the girls in the poster and the overall effect gained.
The layout of the poster has 3 defined sections, foreground, mid-ground and background. This is used to symbolise the popular rating in society by forcing the view of spoilt nature and riches of the girls. At the bottom of the stairs, the foreground, is the ‘leader wolf’. She seems to have the best clothes and most expensive gadgets, also the other 2 girls body language is positioned in such a way so that she really stands out. The other 2 girls are located in the mid-ground, however these two don’t seem to have the same costly goods like the front girl, but are still fairly expensive clothes. The background simply show a set a stairs curling out of the frame. A slight lower class representation is formed in the mid-ground compared to the fore-ground, giving the impression the higher you go up the stairs the less popular you are, hence less important you are. This presents the specific attitude of the girls to look better, rather than focussing on their studying.
By isolating the girls, the camera and angles and framing presents the idea of high society. The long shot perspective shows the whole body of the girls, revealing all the clothing and gadgets. Each of which symbolises the riches and higher society they live in. The mansion staircase in the background only proves this. By framing the end of the staircase off, it
