Co-Ed Schools
All girl schools have been gaining popularity in recent years because of the belief that

girls learn better when they aren’t competing with or intimidated by boys, who statistically get

more attention in the classroom. I think that whether or not boys or girls are in a same sex school

it will not make a difference. I feel that the sex of your child and their peers should not determine

whether or not they will do good or bad in school.

I feel that in an all-girl school the girls can be influenced the same if not even more than

they would if boys were around. In today’s society everything is kind of like a competition. I

think that when girls are around other girls they will always be competing to see who has better

hair, better clothes, who looks better, etc. I feel that with girls there will always be a constant

battle with learning as long as there are distractions around. Girls are sidetracked by a lot of

things. As I sit in my classrooms every day I notice the little things that may distract a girl, it’s

not always necessarily because of a peer. Some things that can come as a distraction are their

nails, or a text message, the little piece of lint on their sweater. Anybody can naturally find a

distraction in something as long as they aren’t fully interested in what is going on.

When boys and girls are in school or have class together there may also bring about

distractions from their learning. They could be focusing on each other instead of whatever it is

that the teacher is talking about. I believe that this can also be a good thing. Sometimes boys or

girls need that extra motivation from another person to want to do well for themselves. If a boy

is in a classroom and he is trying to impress a girl with how smart he is he will strive for better

grades, therefore, paying more attention in class. You have to give students something to be

motivated by and I feel that in this case, they can be motivated by

In the essay, “How schools shortchange boys,” by Gerry Garibaldi, I agree on boys tuning out in a “newly feminized classroom.” Girls may out number boys in graduating from high school with a diploma, but boys give up on school, because they don’t want to be like girls. “Girls are calm and pleasant,” while boys are aggressive and are rationalists. Since girls just do what they are told and write what they need to, for example a project. While girls turn in their assignment days in advance, boys demand when they were given the assignment and act in a disruptive manner. A female teacher might take this as being disrespectful. The disapproval of a female teacher “has a powerful effect on male psyche.” Males squirm from the disapproval when they…

The gap is sometimes small, but over time slight advantages accumulate into big ones.” Girls are most likely to succeed in schools over boys. Many say this is because our educational system has become over feminized. Meaning, many teachers are more sympathetic to girls because they are quite and sit still for hours on end. Where many boys are asked to sit patiently for hours on end in classroom environments where boys struggle to…

In teen years girls and boys become genuinely different. Boys tend to be the one’s who you would depict to be better at a sport or activity, or they're thought to be the ones who would win a competition. Sometimes that is true, however, there are many times where it is not the case.…

Many parents teach their children about the certain stereotypes that are tied to specific genders. This ideology is taught at home, interaction with other people at school, and lastly, the media. This is why a girl will feel more comfortable interacting with other girls at home. It just seems like the right thing to do. If a child is taught that boys are better at certain subjects, the response could possibly be failure, which would be influenced by that stereotype. A child’s development is also influenced by their natural response to certain…

There are an infinite number of ways to define what it means for one to be educated: a student that scores well on tests, one that has a higher level of introspective thinking, etc. Although, one method of determining intelligence that schools are gradually paying more attention to is how well one participates in class. In recent years, teachers have been encouraging students to participate in class discussion more, and even including participation as a graded assignment. However, many factors, such as gender and type of discussion, may affect how much a student will participate.…

A large number of female teachers have an adverse effect on boys, according to an essay Left Behind Boys, the effect is "so-called ‘boy crisis'" (Li). The female teacher is not easy to manage the boys, so it causes a situation that boys always make a wrong impression on everybody. However, "boys are struggling more than girls in school," according to the survey report, "while becoming intellectually and physically weaker" (Li). It doesn't mean that boys are not bright, and it just shows that boys cannot fit in school. Most of the boys are pretty naughty, they prefer to run anywhere rather than keep silence; then, they are also to be pinpointed "attention deficit hyperactivity disorder" (Li). Therefore, boys cannot control themselves when they…

In conclusion, I believe the greatest benefit to gender-segregated classrooms appears to be the subsequent effect on behavior and self-esteem. Across the board, girls showed in improved rate of self esteem and confidence while boys displayed greater behavioral skills and discipline. This in itself would be cause enough to implement more single-sex classrooms in public schools.…

In fact, that's exactly why many experts say there should be more opportunities for boys and girls to compete together and against each other. In school and at work later in life, boys and girls must learn to work together, to respect each other's different skills and strengths. “For girls like sara and Cassy and the boys competing with them playing sports is great practice for the “ big leagues” of life. How do you really know what everyone is good at and strong at until you let them try out. You can't just judge them because they're girls.…

From a young age, girls are taught how to behave and how to dress in order to not raise attention. They are taught that if a boy is mean to them or hits them, it simply means that he likes them. Boys, on the other hand, are taught to not show their emotions. They are taught that aggression is equal to manliness. They are taught that “to play like a girl” is an insult. Both boys and girls are born into a society that places limitations on them based on their gender. These ideas and values are ingrained into their minds and it is something that they are given no choice but to believe in.…
