Child Development 101
Cognitive Theory
One of the first people to have a cognitive theory about development was scientist Jean Piaget. When Piaget did an IQ test on children he figured out something to look at differently about development: how the children thought as they came up with their answers was more important than what they actually knew. “In the cognitive theory equilibrium, a state of mental balance in which people are not confused because they can use their existing thought processes to understand current experiences and ideas” (Berger 46). When you’re a baby, you touch/grab things and put things in your mouth or bang it against something. You are learning what those things are as you go along as you use your senses to figure out what things are and how they work. The cognitive equilibrium makes sense because it is stating that you have to be in a mind state of mental balance in order to understand and register things in your mind and actually apply it to your actions. Although some humans have shown an unexplainable, clashing behavior that makes a person’s mind become confused. I believe you do have to have a certain state of mind to be able to process everything that you do. When a person is doing something for the first time, they are using their previous experience to figure out how to do something, and when they don’t figure out how to do it, they try it in a different way. A person has to apply their thinking in the right way in order for them to grow mentally and able to do things with no problem or with little …show more content…
I think a great way to get young children to express their way of thinking is to ask a lot of questions and ask their opinion on things because then you can explain to them a different perspective on something and show them various ways they can go about doing it. I believe that will affect them as they grow older in positive way. However, every single thing taught to a particular individual they may not advance in another activity or thought the exact same
