People with claustrophobia are called, claustrophobics. Claustrophobia comes from the Latin root of Claustrum meaning ‘shut in place’ and the suffix Phobos which means ‘fear’.
What is claustrophobia? Claustrophobia is an irrational fear of being enclosed or trapped. 2% of people suffer from claustrophobia. People with claustrophobia usually avoid elevators, tight spaces, and more spaces where claustrophobia is common. Claustrophobic are usually the ones that take the stairs to the next floor up or down. Having claustrophobia and being a claustrophobic can be hard on some of its subjects.
When they are staying at a hotel, they want to walk up the stairs , but they have lots of luggage to carry! They would probably do it anyway, but it will be a long walk up.
How do you discover that you are a claustrophobic? You could trap yourself in a closet (Don’t turn the lights off) and stay in there for at least 1-2 minutes. Or try going into a crawlspace, and stay in there for at least 30 seconds-1 minute.You will know if you are claustrophobic when you start feeling uncomfortable.
