I was hired as a Porter for an apartment building. The first day I was nervous and didn’t know a lot about what a Porter does in an apartment building. Luckily, my coworkers were nice enough to explain to me what I was going to be doing this summer. I learned so much from my first job and I enjoyed working in that building, but the first week wasn’t so easy. I made a few mistakes my first couple of days. But I learned from the mistakes I made and I got into a good routine of knowing my schedule better. I worked forty hours a week and I earned a lot of money but I also had a lot of new experiences. I learned how to manage the elevator controls from the front desk, how to mop the floors, how to polish the windows, how to paint and many other things I learned while working this summer.
I am a pretty quiet person, but working helped me open up and helped me learn to communicate with new people I met. Working also taught me that I will always have to work hard in life. I consider this a good thing. It’s what makes life interesting, It made me realize that if I don’t have things I want to achieve in life, then life can get pretty boring and trying new things and opening yourself up to new experiences helps you learn more about yourself and what you like to do.
