College Essay About Softball
Everyone has a favorite hobby; one that makes their bad days better, and they’re best days great. Softball gives me these days, and it’s what I do best and my ability as a softball player comes from dedication and mental toughness. To be a successful softball player, it requires much strength, time, and energy. There isn’t a sport out that there that you don’t have to work hard at. I am constantly practicing to improve my skill that requires an excessive amount of effort because I have bad days just as everyone else, and many times I’m just plain worn out. Staying fully devoted to this game isn’t an easy task. I have to give up several weekends with my friends and family so that I may travel to tournaments, sometimes several hours away. I must always be very responsible and well rounded to keep up with school, homework, practice, my social life, and my family. As exhausting as it is to stay fully devoted to this game there are many rewards. Softball has taught me about several valuable life lessons that will follow me through the rest of my life which include; teamwork, perseverance, responsibility, good sportsmanship, determination, faith, friendship, love, and so much more. Although I am very thankful for now possessing these qualities, the biggest way my dedication to softball would give back to me is by landing me a scholarship to play softball at a college. To be able to play at college level in a sport I have dedicated my whole life and worked so hard at would be a dream come true and such an accomplishment to know that I have finally made it. Through all the sweat, blood, and tears. The scorching heat, or the freezing cold, or the endless hours of practicing. It will have all been worth it in the end because I ended up exactly where I’ve always wanted to be; which is on a college softball field. I can just imagine it now. All the cheering fans and the television broadcasters as they film the game live for all to see on ESPN; the bright sun that beats down on us as we stand on the brown dirt and green

My accomplishments in softball were second team third baseman for my freshman and sophomore year and my junior year I got the first team utility player. I have got voted team captain in softball. In softball we had two coach changes, out first coach was Mr. Chavez and the coach currently is Mr. Torgeson. These two men have different coaching methods and it was very hard to adjust. Chavez was all about the hitting and Torg was all about bunting. There overall look at how the game is played are completely different from each other. Therefore when he had a coaching change it was a big shock for me. As a freshman, I played on the varsity team and I really loved getting to have that experience. I loved playing softball and I have played since I was about 5. In Softball I seem to always hurt myself, I have hip problems and I just recently had surgery on my wrist because of softball. Therefore I learned that you need to take care of yourself and work out to keep everything attached. You also need to practice hard to succeed because in my opinion, I think hitting a softball is super hard and you need lots of practice succeed. Softball is a great example of you will fail first before you succeed because in softball there is three strikes and you might not hit the first pitch but you can hit the next one. Therefore batting in softball you might fail first before he succeed. “Never let the fear of striking out get in your…

I came from a family of really athletic people. My Mom and sister Kaitlyn both played softball from a young age and had many great accomplishments. My sister Kassidy played soccer from a young age as well. I have a lot to live up to. I started playing soccer when I four and I played for one year until I was no longer interested in it anymore. I started softball when I was five, and it wasn’t my favorite. I then retreated back to soccer for a few years. When I was in second grade, I cut my ankle on the bowl that my dog broke when I was trying to get cereal because I was hungry. After that I really didn’t want to play soccer anymore, so I decided to retire my soccer cleats forever. After this, I tried various different ranging from swim team to softball, and as you can imagine, softball stuck. When it did though, it came with my hot-headed personality showing. There was no way around it. I was also very independent, which could be a good thing in some cases, but as I got older I was required to do more group work. I just didn’t know how to.…

Sports should be a part of everybody’s lifestyle. There are many different types of sports, from combat sports to snow sports or even water sports, but the best type of sports are physical. One of the most outstanding physical sports is softball. Softball can be played by female athletes at many different levels. For example, travel softball, one of the most advanced ways to play, is played by elite girls between the ages of nine and twenty-three. Hi , I’m Lilli Burton . I am in sixth grade, and play baseball with the boys. A barrier i have faced is trying to play baseball because I am a girl. Whenever I try - out , they say “ She would be great at softball.” I face the barrier in Summer and Fall when it is time for baseball. A lot of coaches are sceptical about putting me on their team, but I don’t let that stop me from trying and trying again.Until someone accepts me for who i am. To overcome this barrier , I used integrity by sticking up for my beliefs and not always caring about what people think of me . I also used determination by never giving up and try my best to get better and better everyday. My barriers are similar to Jackie Robinson’s because we both wanted to do something…

Every single day I was outside either playing catch or working out. I remember at the time I was playing for the St Louis Sting, I continued the season to have the most innings pitched, lowest earned run average, second highest batting average, most doubles, most strike outs, and I also pitched my first no-hitter. Without having the dedication or motivation none of this could have happened. I went from playing catch once a week to everyday. I also would continue on and play baseball at Parkway South High School and lead that season in strikeouts. As I grew older I started to realize that I have the capability to play baseball for the rest of my life and that's something that is unexplainable. To be able to do something you love to do for the rest of your life is remarkable to me. I get that all because of a game.…

They say if you love something then you should set it free. That is exactly what I did with softball and me. I invested so much time, effort, and money into the sport but what was I getting in return? Oh yeah, constant nagging, a ton of lies with a side of attitude, and having to regenerate a new set of lungs after every practice due to the excessive amount of running. Despite wanting to shoot myself during practice, I did take some valuable lessons away from playing softball.…

The dispassion I had towards Baseball was taking notice by my dad. He said, “You don’t like baseball don’t you…” I sadly accepted it and I felt the response would let him down. To my surprise, my dad responded by saying, “You don’t have to play baseball if you don’t want to. You can do whatever makes you happy.” Soon after conceding to not liking baseball, I went straight back to my favorite sport, soccer. Immediately, I felt much happier attending each practice and this gave me the drive to develop as a better player. Little did I know that my dad’s advice would still motivate me to this…

As the baseball diamond started to fade in and out of my blurry vision, I realized something was wrong when I was still sitting on the bench. I was on varsity baseball, ( that’s what I thought I was gonna spend the rest of my life doing) my grade point average was rising, and I was surrounded by positive people all around me who gave off a positive vibe. Of course all good things must to an end right? Well my good times came to end quickly.…

Growing up I played baseball to me baseball was everything i could think of. i couldn't wait to the weekend so i could put on that dirty uniform and pick up the new bat and nice leather glove and play baseball. When i was young i played in a big park in NYC where everyone saw you play so as i grew up everyone expected me to continue playing baseball and get better and work hard my mother always signed me up for baseball and i met a lot of coaches who help me gain more talent throughout the years. So as i grew up baseball started to be more and more of a priority to me i went to baseball practice two times a week one during the week and one on the weekend and with baseball practice i attended a baseball program which is twice a week meaning less and less time for homework and time to study. that being said i believe that time management and dealing with less and less sleep is the biggest problem with high school sports.…

During the summer, I participated in a travel softball team and it showed me sportsmanship and great character building skills. The summer before I came to ASMS, I hurt my rotator cuff and was unable to play the rest of the summer, and with coming to ASMS I had not played in almost a full year. When I started playing again, I barely played in tournaments. I usually sat the bench or “splinter field.” It really hurt my feelings for a while and even made me feel like I had lost my talent for the sport I loved to play since I was six years old. For several tournaments, I felt like quitting and going home. I hated just sitting and not being able to even throw a ball. After a month of sitting, I realized that it was okay. He invited me to play when…
