The baseball bag laying there all alone on a perfect day. With nobody to play catch or to hit. There I am thinking its just a hobby, passing up all the moments I could have practiced. All the missed opportunities I missed. I wish I could take it back. Now I have realized its more than just a hobby its my passion.
I remember as a kid I was not so great at baseball. I remember the long games I used to have with terrible at bats and the long outings I used to have as a pitcher. No matter how bad I did though all the parents would cheer and tell me good job but deep down I knew that I did terrible. I honestly laugh at myself when I think of how bad I was at baseball. Every single day I was outside either playing catch or working out. I remember at the time I was playing for the St Louis Sting, I continued the season to have the most innings pitched, lowest earned run average, second highest batting average, most doubles, most strike outs, and I also pitched my first no-hitter. Without having the dedication or motivation none of this could have happened. I went from playing catch once a week to everyday. I also would continue on and play baseball at Parkway South High School and lead that season in strikeouts. As I grew older I started to realize that I have the capability to play baseball for the rest of my life and that's something that is unexplainable. To be able to do something you love to do for the rest of your life is remarkable to me. I get that all because of a game.
Yeah people might think I’m good at baseball but nobody knows what I had to go through to get where I am today. It took me sometime to realize baseball was more than just a hobby and I'm glad I did. Without the change I wouldn't be the same athlete I am today. Today I look back on myself as the same athlete I am today even though I take baseball more seriously it's still a game it's just played differently and takes a whole lot more to continue on and play at the next level.
