Why Baseball Is Important To Me
Baseball is more than a game, practice, and even a life lesson. Baseball to me, has become my life and has made me who I am because of it. This sport has done numerous things in my life to change it forever. The people I have met, the things I have learned, and the challenges that I have overcome. I believe that this sport has taught me to be the self confident person that I am today.
This game started every saturday, since teeball, in a small town no one has ever heard of called Iowa Falls. My dad always thought I was gonna become the next great wrestler, until his dream was shot down when he noticed I was very claustrophobic. This field is the start of who I am. On this field I learned to master fielding drills and I never stopped until I could. I correlate this to my life now and how I live and do things. I never wanna stop in life, school, or anything until I feel like I have mastered it. To me it was never about being able to do it but it was being able to excel in it.
This sport is a game of who you know, who meet, and who are. When you play any sport you meet people that change your life. These are the people that you are told to surround your life with. Without these people you wouldn't be half the person that you are. I meet one person who I would I have to give all the credit to who I am as a baseball player and who I have become.
This person has changed my life in more ways than I could have ever imagined. This person has taught me to always trust myself in every situation and to be self reliant. They taught me to be self confident to test everything that I am taught. This person has changed me from shy to outgoing. Without this person I can most definitely say that I would be nowhere near the person I would want to be. Lastly this person taught me how to set goals not just to set them but then to reach them. They taught me to get out there and break them and learn to break

    U.S. citizens have been playing variations of these games sense the revolutionary war. In the 1840s, New Yorker Alexander Joy Cartwright and his acquaintances played a game they called "base ball." The game was very similar to what we know today (“History of Little League,” 2010) as baseball. In the years that followed, and in various places around the country, teams and clubs for adult men were created, leagues were formed, all of which were building blocks for professional baseball. It wasn’t until the late 1930’s that the same opportunities were created for pre-teen boys. Carl Stotz, who many refer to as the founder of little league baseball, started a three team league in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Stotz raised money by recruiting local businessmen to be sponsors, acquired equipment and uniforms for the boys and started three teams.     Life at home became very somber, as if a wave of darkness had come over my family. He loved baseball, much like me, and he liked watching me pitch. Baseball became my sanctuary, because it took me away from my worries, and also provided me with a close connection to my uncle.
